I just got fired for stealing. I was trying to get fired because I hated working there. On my application for a newer job, Do I have to say I was fired for stealing on my application or can I twist the words around a bit. Something like Fired for breaking policy or something like that.

I am not supporting your stealing/lying, as you probably don't deserve to work anywhere, as you will "hate" them all. But you don't have to say ****, as in "reason for leaving last job"... "interfered with...", whatever. Obviously you don't work in Nuclear Physics, or anything like that. Most companies, especially McDonalds, Burger King, etc., do not really check background.

Your prospective employer will definately check your references. When they call, they will likely ask if you quit on your own or terminated for one reason or another, which they will answer you were terminated. They might say you were terminated due to theft.

You will not know how much your previous employer will say. Some say very little, some say alot. As long as they are telling the truth, they can say how much ever they wish.

You can say anything you want on your applications. If you tell the whole truth, then you will likely NOT get hired. If you lie or twist words a bit, and they find out the truth, you will not get hired. If you lie and get by this time, but they later find out you lied on your applications, you will get fired. (again)

You did a VERY stupid thing. You will have to live with the consequences.

Why on earth would you try to get fired, especially for something like stealing (for which you can be prosecuted?) Why not just quit?

You don't have to give a reason for leaving on your app, and in this case you probably shouldn't. A new employer will not want to hire you if they know that you were terminated for theft. if asked in an interview, you can tell the truth or use the strategem that you devised, i.e., "breaking policy." They may still be reluctant to offer you the job, though.

Your new employer will definitely check with your former employer. If you are honest in your application, you might have a chance; but if you are caught laying on your application, you will be assumed to be a liar as well as a thief and you will have no chance. If you hated your job, why did you not simply quit? Being fired - especially for theft - gives you a whole new set of problems

Legally, they can say when you worked there, your job title and if they would hire you again.

Do not lie on your application, but you do not have to give them the details unless you were prosecuted and convicted for the theft. However, I hope that you have realized that there are many ways to leave employment and the most
responsible way is to write a letter of resignation.

It is better not to burn bridges. You never know when you might run into these people again. It is a small world...

No you don't have to, but that was a silly way to be fired, Why didn't you quit? What you gonna do if the new employer hears that you were fire from your former job for stealing? I think that you didn't do something smart.

I have to wonder why you didn't just quit. Theft is considered gross misconduct and that means you cannot collect unemployment. It also goes permanently on your employment record and can haunt you for years, especially if you ever want a job that involves any type of cash handling.

I would recommend listing fired for theft and leave it at that. But realize that you may have a lot of difficulty finding a job from now on.

Sorry basically for the most part you will not be trusted by any other employer. Instead of stealing you could of just quit. For that you could of found an excuse for stealing there is none

Not a good idea. To lie or steal. Your new employer will most likely check your references and find out the lie and that you stole. Good luck finding a job and keeping it. If you didn't like the job it would have been smarter to just quit than to steal.
