Cheques ("Checks" in the US) were the only alternative to paying by cash up to a few decades ago. Now they are less common in most countries. They are inconvenient because you have to take them to the bank branch to cash, carry these bits of paper around and the banks have to do some sorting manually. It seems primitive in this age. Is ther anywhere where they cheques/checks have been abandoned altogether??

I recieved a free estimate from this roofing company and I recieved a good estimate. I signed the estimate paper, but did not get any arrangements for the roofing job to be done with the company. However, before the job got started and before I paid a deposit to the roofing company, I wanted to back out because they were taking too long to get the job done. When talking to the owner of the company to cancel my order he threntened to put a lien on my house

Can he do that even though I haven;t paid himany money

I found someone was collecting money from me every month on my credit card and I never signed up for that. Is there some kind of phishing device that collects critical credit card data from your computer without your knowledge?

I found out that my parent has a credit card in my name. I didn't even know about it until I got the first bill. I was shocked by this and knew that it was my parent that could've done this. I was right and now I'm angry and upset because I can't pay it and they can't pay it either. It's been about 4 months since I found out and I don't know what to do. I've called the company to cancel the card but I haven't reported my parent. I don't really want to go to the company to report as fraud because I don't want this person to go to jail and if I report it as not knowing who did it they will figure out it was my parent. I need help. What would you do? Will my parent go to jail if I report to the credit card company?

I know the legal issues, like you would have to pay if the other person doesn't and all that. But what happens to your credit? Does the score go up or down, how is that affected? I'm asking because I want someone to co-sign for me so I can move, there won't be any problem with me paying my rent but this person is worried about their credit score.....

I'm starting up an arts organization, but am only a sole-proprietorshop and don't want to go full non-profit unless I know I can handle the load. However, I still want to offer free community services and get in-kind donations and apply for art grants.

I'm aware of umbrella organizations, but am hoping there's a way I can still do in-kind donations through the business - is this possible?

I have capital one, like most first time credit card owners.
I pay off the balance often ( if I havee the cash I will blow it anyway, this way I am building history) and I have never been late. I still have a measly 300 limit.. When do people normally get their increase and how much?

I need to know if it would be better to file married filing jointly with my husband or should we both file married filing separate returns. I made $46,000 and he has made $1,400. He had not worked all year because of him studying and getting his real estate license. He just sold his first house and his commission was the $1,400. He spent around $5,500 getting is real estate license and getting his business started. We have no other income, ira's, stocks or anything so our taxes are pretty cut and dry.

In January, it will be 3 years that this girl I work with came to our department. In the 3 years she's been working with us, she has not learned a single thing. She cannot remember how to do something a week after I showed her. I'm constantly showing her how to do things and it takes so much of my time. Last week, while our boss was on vacation, she did so many stupid things I cannot even count and I'm absolutely amazed how little her brain actually retains. I actually hate going to work because I know my work is getting behind while I have to stop everything and show her how to do things. Should I talk to my boss about this Tuesday when he gets back from vacation and tell her? I feel like a tattle tale or something but it's ridiculous...I feel if you can't do the job, go somewhere else, like Burger King!

A couple of people have said that I should take it off the market because its been blacklisted since its been on for so long but my agent said no...not in this declining market. If it had been two years ago yes a few eyebrows would have been raised.....should I continue to hold on knowing that the slump is not over or should I take it off the market for a couple of months and then try again? This current agent seems to have lost interest with us..its been 3 weeks since I last talked with her and I have called twice, left voice messages but no return calls...could this be a clue?
