I own a small business. Instead of giving all of my employees christmas bonuses in the form of money, I plan on giving them each a fruitcake. will this annoy them?

There is no law stating that you have to give out bonuses. Just know that a bonus reflects how you, as an employer, feel about the quality of the work your employees did for you.
Would you want to be given a fruitcake as a bonus?

Why have you chosen to give them a fruitcake? are you being greedy or selfish? Sometimes it hurts a little to give, but giving is a good thing, and the reward is far greater than if you don't give.
Do you lack for food, water or shelter? If you give your employees the money will you be further in debt? Ever increasing debt is usually a sign of greediness.

Gary

I think that if you already told them you were going to give them a bonus, you should stick with it. If not , then don't, but don't give them a fruitcake either because not many people like them. Get them something like a regular present (something that interests the individual). Or maybe a gift basket full of candles, candies, and maybe an ornament. Try not to get food because you don't know what people like or if they are allergic to something. Hope I helped.

Yes, I think a better idea would be to give them a gift certificate to your local supermarket instead, and maybe they would go out and spend it on Xmas cookies for your entire office/plant. That way they have the option: fruitcake, or cookies; I think the answer is obvious.

You might as well not give them a bonus at all. Nobody uses fruitcake. Something like that would have them plotting revenge.

YES! They are probably planning to use that money for buying their presents. You should ration their bonuses. Or you could give them an o-k bonus and a fruit basket or something like that. Think about it from their perspective.

most likely.
people work hard all year long and a bonus and the end of the year at christmas time is a great way to say thankyou and is just what they need.
everybody has bills you know.
heres a tip: do anything, anthing, but don't give them fruit cake cause you won't have your small buisness anymore.
