Lets say I want to buy some stock, can I call a broker and say I want "100" shares and pay the guy and his fee. And then three weeks later call and sell, and make that difference if it goes up. This may sound dumb, I want to know if theres more to it than that.

I work for a NPO ( Non Profit Organization ) my position is CTO. My boss who is the COO is a Non-IT person and has no knowledge whatsoever of IT.

Since we don't have much money to spend and neither in IT, I propose him 2 weeks ago, to trade the services from a turn-key sw development company. They give us 2 programmers and in exchange we give them a tax free receipt for a 6 month duration.

At first, he was eager to do it, because with those 2 resources, we could develop several apps that have been in a hold status for a couple years, and really are needed in the organization.

Until today, a few hours ago, where he told me that he was scared, because if we do that, all the knowledge from our organization would be in other persons and the outsourcing would be a real bad idea.

So, my question is, how do you IT Sales people convince your potential customers, to acquire your outsourcing services with the example I just gave you? What are your arguments?

My company, in which I'm a shareholder, recently got acquired by a publicly held company. As part of the deal, in exchange for my restricted shares I get some stock in the acquiring company and cash. Most of the cash is going to be delivered in a lump sum with some money to follow after sitting in an escrow for a few months. I'm a bit concerned about what this influx of cash (about a third of my annual salary) will mean from a tax perspective. Is there a way to minimize the bite that Uncle Sam takes or am I pretty much at the mercy of the IRS? Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

I have been getting pre recorded calls from a person from national enterprise system. At first I thought that they were solicitors so I have never returned their call. I finally yahooed that name and found it was a collection agency. This has been going on for the past 10 months. I do not have any credit problems or situations that could have a collector on my back. It could be from many years ago, there was a person with the same last name that lived on my street who had problems with collectors but I am afraid to speak with the company for fear of the consequences (what if they had something on me, or I don't want to verify anything that could cause me undue trouble with collectors, etc.).

since this guy has been calling 1 to 3 times a week for the past 10 months, leaving a message on my answering machine, I figure he was just fishing for information from me about me or someone else.

Any way I can get this guy to stop calling me without having to speak to him?
