This needs to be handled carefully. Are they remarks in general or are they directed at a specific person.? If someone else is involved then you may have even more to deal with...
The employee needs to be brought in for a meeting to discuss the situation. You need to be able to identify what the company's policy is on diversity and the actions that can be taken if diversity rules are violated. You need to warn the employee and identify for them why this is inappropritate for the work place. But you have to give them a chance to correct their behavior. At the same time, document document document. Write down what occurs and when. Write down what is discussed in the employee meeting and ask them to sign just to identify that the meeting occured. Make sure HR is aprised of what is going on as they may have a standard method for handling this type of case. But what you don't want to do is overreact. But at the same time the employee must understand that this is inappropriate for the work place.

tell them it reflexs badly on the business and the employer......
tell them that YOU do not want to be perceived that way...or tell them that they have a right to say what they want on their free time
but that is not what they are supposed to be doing at work
