You have to buy a bank draft in pounds Sterling - you go to the bank, tell them you need a sterling bank draft for whatever the amount is, and they'll tell you what you have to pay.

A sterling draft is a garunteed cheque issued by a bank on your behalf.

Most banks charge from £12 upwards for this service but they are useful for buying larger items that you cannot issue a personal cheque ie car purchase. The downside of them is that the payee still has to wait for the draft to clear even though it is a garunteed payment.
