I have had a penny jar for as long as I can remember, and it has certainly built up, but now I am stuck as to how I can change them all up. Banks dont change them anymore! What exactly do banks DO now? Where can I take all my coppers?

My dad is giving me £1,000 towards the debt which I'm really grateful for. However which debt do I pay of first? Do I pay 3 or 4 off that come to that amount or do I pay the highest interest one?

Thanks

My husband had to pay a debt off with Abbey. He does not have any Debit or Credit cards. He told them that he would be able to pay them with my card when the money had been transferred.
Phones them up two days later to pay but they won't let him. They want verification from ME that he can use my card. I return from my jaunt and he rings them again. Hands the phone to me. Lady says “Is it ok for your husband to pay this bill with your card?" I say Yes and she says Ok, can you give me the number?
I say “IS that it?" she says yes.. I say "but I could be the cleaner!” She says “sorry but if any money is taken off your card illegally we have to be able to prove that we asked you. I said "BUT I COULD BE THE CLEANER!!!"
Anyway,it got paid, but I can't understand why they would take the word of an anonymous voice on the end of a phone when they wouldn't take my husbands word for it.. who let's be honest.. was just ANOTHER anonymous voice on a phone.
Have you come across nonsense like this?

I recall that VAT was introduced in the UK in the mid 70's

First question is, what form of duty/tax existed before VAT was introduced (like US stylee 'sales tax' for instance)

Also was it the UK that imposed VAT on the common market (EEC etc) or was it the EEC that imposed VAT on the UK

Im thinking of changing jobs, and i have found one im going to apply for. But i'll need to give a reference from my current employer, but if i don't get the job my current employer will know im looking to change. That could cause a lot of fricton.

Its a hard situation as im quite an important person in the team and leaving in the next few months would be a real hassle for this company!

Im so confused!
