Are you the only one on that drawer? Can they assign the error to you exclusively. How short was your till? Did you take it? Most large retail employers shouldn't make you pay it back, but they can put you on cash control (count your drawer before and after your shift in your presence) to ensure the error doesn't repeat itself.

If you know, your not the one making the till down, refuse to pay it, I did on a few occasions, and I wasn't forced to pay it. At the end of the day unless they have proof that you are the one causing the shortfall, then they can't MAKE YOU PAY IT BACK. I answered your other question. Stand your ground, and refuse. The pub I worked in, we didn't have to pay it back originally, but then when new people started the tills, started to have shortfalls, I knew it wasn't me, and although I did pay it back on some occasions, it got so bad, I refused to pay in the end.

THEY CANNOT TAKE IT OUT OF YOUR WAGES, IF THEY DO SEEK ADVICE FROM THE CAB.

You mean if your till is short. You may not have to pay it back but you might get in trouble 3 reasons. (1) if a till is short it means you may have over charged someone (2) if its over you may have ripped someone off. (3) Your manager may assume you took money out which in turn in imbessiling

Your employer cannot make you pay the money back out of your wages.
If it is not your fault tell them you are sorry for any mistake but firmly refuse to be made to pay any cash back.
Don't be bullied, stand up to them.

If your till is down you should try and cheer it up! Maybe tell a few jokes or something!

If you took the money from it then Yes!

If it was through no fault of your own then the company will most likely pay, until it starts becoming habit.
