Has anyone ever published a book? If so what is the process? I have been working on writing several works for the past 4 years and I've been in the process of searching for publishers. I purchased a big book of publishers from 2006 and I just never got around to contacting anyone. I never knew how to lay out a mnuscript or anyhting or if I needed an agent.

I was also wondering of how the books end up on the shelf of my local Borders or Walden Books- it seems so wild and unattainable. I want so badly to just sent out a manusctipt and get the ball rolling. I need some rejections and I need some feedback just to know what people have recieved my work. But I do not know how to go about doing it.

My questions are;

Who do I contact? How do I format a manusctipt? How does my manuscrupt tranform to a book on a shelf? How does it get there?!

Thank you for helping me. I need advice preferably from someone who has been there and done that.

The fact that the case was acquitted CLEARLY proves that OJ didn’t kill Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

So what harm is there in writing a hypothetical book about how he would have carried out their murders? Personally I think it shows creativity.

Trying to remember the author and title of a short story.

In the story, the world is horrifically overpopulated, and people live in overcrowded squalor; all the buildings have been divided into tiny living cubicles just big enough for a bed and a suitcase. One man accidentally discovers that his cubicle has a covered-over door, and behind it is a big empty room that was apparently boarded up years earlier and forgotten. To him it is unimaginable luxury, but he makes the mistake of letting a few other people know it is there, and eventually he winds up with a bunch of leeching roommates.

Title and/or author? Anyone?

One that shows how a person can have more than 1 aspect (ideally two). Author doesn't have to be famous, but preferably so.

Chapter 1

The rooster crowed loudly and signaled the beginning of another day. It was dark out but that was to be expected on a farm like ours. An early start in the morning and late nights before resting peacefully in our beds was always our routine in my somewhat Amish family.
I yawned and tumbled out of my bed to the small candle that sat on the far corner of my old oak desk. Carefully lighting a match, I caught the small wick on fire and my cupboard of a room was instantly illuminated. Brilliant shadows danced on my wooden walls. It was as if a tiny world inhabited of people made entirely of flame danced along to some ritual song that was silent to the people in my world.
Each step I took towards the small trunk that contained all my clothes made my floor boards moan with distaste. Opening it, I took out my favorite green work

I need a good book that:
Is around Middle School maturity, but can be any level in text
Is readable in a weekend
Doesn't have a too complicated plot
First book that is good enough gets 10 points (it doesn't really matter to me, I just need the book FAST!!)
