Trying to remember the author and title of a short story.
In the story, the world is horrifically overpopulated, and people live in overcrowded squalor; all the buildings have been divided into tiny living cubicles just big enough for a bed and a suitcase. One man accidentally discovers that his cubicle has a covered-over door, and behind it is a big empty room that was apparently boarded up years earlier and forgotten. To him it is unimaginable luxury, but he makes the mistake of letting a few other people know it is there, and eventually he winds up with a bunch of leeching roommates.
Title and/or author? Anyone?

Some replies:
1) No, it was not a Twilight Zone episode, to my knowledge. I definitely remember reading it.
2) I don't think it was Asimov. Just didn't seem like his style.
3) It was not "The Machine Stops," but thank you for reminding me of that story. I've always liked that one.
