I am looking to submit a short story to a magazine in the hope that it will be published. How do I go about writing the cover letter for it?

I am looking for a short story I read in the ninth grade. If I remember correctly, the Grim Reaper approaches a worker in the fields. The worker is terrifed that is he going to die. The story ends by the Grim Reaper saying he is in fact looking for the worker's boss, not the worker. I think this story was featured in a Norton Anthology reader. It would most likely be British literature.

Remember those illustrations!!! I'd love to get a tattoo of one of those.

Which one was your favorite story? Or which book of the series?

All I can remember is I loved them and they talked very strange. It seems when I find some online now, they have modernized the words and I'd like to read what my mom read. I don't want to reference to the Disney movie, I'd like to see or read a section from ones produced when my mom could have easily found these books and read them to me in the 1950's, Any literary help here, please don't guess to get points, unless you think you really have something to contribute, I just need a good strong lead in where to search and what search words and ?? all I have is my child's eye view, but I have a great memory .

Not sure if this is a saying or an actual poem, but I'm wondering who authored this, and where it came from originally. I presume that it was a part of some published work, not just a saying that was passed down over time. Can you help me? Thank you! Here it is:

At last the ladder,
which had been built
slowly, slowly,
one hope at a time,
reached up
to the clouds.
And the dreamer
began to climb.

I am a big advocate of the principle of the point of diminishing returns, and sometimes I feel that we have passed that point when it comes to advocating reading.
I also feel that reading is most effective when combined with other mediums. For instance, I was reading "The City and the Stars" by Arthur Clarke years ago, and one of the characters is a polyp. I had no idea what a polyp was, and the dictionary's definition wasn't much help (I had no access to internet at the time). If I had seen a polyp on television previously, I would have had a much better mental image of this imaginary character. The same thing could be said of references to songs, films, websites, advertisements, etc. What's your take on it?

I am 16 and I need some good books to read. I have read stephenie meyer's books. I like classics and I have a pretty high reading level, but I want it to be clean and NOT crude or disgusting. I don't really like lots of romance.

I am sure it was American. It was about a woman taken prisoner and kept in a room (for sex) by about 4 men - all very different characters. One was fat & impotent, one was a very rough type and one was quite young. It was years ago that I read it - it's not the well known book The Men's Room by Ann Oakley as that's a completely different plot. Any ideas anyone?

The book must be written by a female author, and must include a heroine. May someone please recommend a book? One involving a crime drama would be good. Thanks in advance.

It's about 46 individual characters, single spaced. I haven't finished it yet, but where can I find:

*FREE publishing
*Eleven year olds can do it
*No page limit, minimum is okay.
*No illustrations
*Must be by one person

I absolutely LOVE to write, and I have my ending. I have the characters, I have a rather bleak discription of the time device. I only a senior in high school, so can anyone such as physicists, writers, book nuts or students help criticize and improve my current and future chapters? I have the first statements figured out:
*****
And out of no where, an explosion of titanic proportion! The scorching heat in an infinite clout burns time and space throughout, giving birth to the home of all that lives and all that dies alike. From what was once a single point is now a horde of things… that poured across the vast and future skies. Now of grand and endless size, in space and time the matters now immerse. Is now the Universe…?

Chapter 1: Thirteen Billion Years Later…
*****
Those who help will be an acknowledgment for sure. Please help me out, I have a LOT of ideas! The end has an AWESOME twist, too.
