I am looking for a short story I read in the ninth grade. If I remember correctly, the Grim Reaper approaches a worker in the fields. The worker is terrifed that is he going to die. The story ends by the Grim Reaper saying he is in fact looking for the worker's boss, not the worker. I think this story was featured in a Norton Anthology reader. It would most likely be British literature.

I'm not sure about this story, but I can recommend some books about the Reaper: Mort, Reaper Man and Soul Music by Terry Pratchett. Death is actually a character in Pratchett's universe, and appears in many of his other books along with his horse Binky.

I've seen that one in various forms. A guy sees death at an intersection and keeps driving away to escape death only to learn in the end he's asking directions. Death shows up on someone's doorstep meerly to ask about where a neighbor is. Things like that. You can probably find it in various sources (I think maybe one of the "Scary Stories" books might even have a version).
