My boyfriend and I recently determined that he is likely suffering from depression. He has likely had some form of depression his whole life, but this episode appears to be related to job issues and resulting layoffs. He has moved out to try and work out his issues in his own space, focusing on doing some writing and getting back to his spiritual side. However, from all the reading I have been doing, it would appear that he should be seeking some form of professional help. But due to a past incident with a family member, he has no trust in the medical profession and will not even go to a doctor for a physical ailment. So:

(1) What can I do to try and convince him he needs professional help?

(2) What can he do to lessen the depression without therapy / medication?

I have been asked by our pastor to present the farewell speech to a member of our clergy who is leaving our church to take another position elsewhere. He is a remarkable person and will truly be missed by all. Never given remarks of this type before and want to do a great job with the presentation. Remarks should not last longer than 3 to 5 minutes. Help!!!!

I just read about the ladys that are crying racism because of a guy having to check her reciept before leaving Toys R Us. Yes, I am white, and I have my reciept checked before leaving a lot of stores. Its there job. Some of my best friends are black, and I was the best man in one of their weddings a few years back, and he even doesn't understand it. He grew up in a mobile home park and worked hard to get where he is and has never complained like other african americans. I know I have been discriminated against when it comes to certain jobs because of age and education, but I just keep working hard. I am not trying to start anything or offend anyone, but it just doesn't make sense to me. I grew up with nothing and have even been told if I was african american I could have qualified for a loan, but because I am white,the government did not want to help me out.Everyone I know has had to work hard, and yet all I see on the news is racism over stupid things, like people wanting a free ride.

but believe a god can come from 'nothing'?
'He has always been there' is the same as saying the 'universe has always been there' Do these people just want to believe as the god theory promises an afterlife but a scientfic theory never would!
