Alright, it just finished pouring here in PA, and I am ready to go out and test my luck.

Will the fish be biting in the high and swift water after a rain?

Will fish bite after a rain, either way?

Usually, if it hasn't rained in quiet some time, a nice rain will turn fish "on". Look for drains & area's of "run-off" to fish around. River's & streams can be esp good if it hasn't rained in a while.

However, if it rains every other day, the fish may get "finicky", esp if the rain has a measure of acidity or chlorine. Acid rain makes fish freak!

Plus, the rain may cause mud to filter through the water. If it's SUPER-muddy after a rain, think spinnerbat's & "tail-wagg'in" lures.

Remember ,when it rains, "new" water is being introduced to the lake/stream environment. Anytime you introduce new-water in quanity to an environment there will be vast changes in PH.

Would you want to eat a NY Strip dinner if the air was full of noxious gases?

Good luck!

I have always had better fishing in the rain. It actually makes the fish a little more active because of the higher oxygen content. This increases the feeding, and increses your chance of catching that big one. I highly recomend fishing on warm days, if lightining begins though get off the water immediately. When it is just raining try to fish in areas of 10 feet or less with a little deep weedage, this is where I have had my best success.

Fish tend to always come to surface or become active feeders after bad weather. It's the best time to fish besides in the very early morning!

ps. My father once went fishing off the dock in the eye of a hurrican (the silent middle) here in MA....I was sitting in the car watching him pull one in after another.

I personally never fish after a downpour, but I would absolutely try to fish before one.

barometric pressure and water clarity / cloudiness play a huge role in fish biting and on what color lures

they bite better when the clouds are out and it has just finished raining because when it is sunny and hot then they sink closer to the bottom and try to stay in the murky waters. when it is cloudy enough they swim up to the top of the surface, causing the jumping you see at the top of the water. good luck

Yes, after the rain is a great time to go fishing....especially if its a late afternoon shower.

I would go out to my favorite pond and find the creek draining into the pond and I would fish there with a crayfish type lure. You will find a lot of time the runoff will wash crayfish into the main body of water and the bass will set up to ambush these crayfish as they wash down.
