My parents and I had a fight of sorts, and now I have to learn to be independent. I'm a sophomore at Maryland Inst College of Art, and my parents have been paying for everything - til now. Please give me some advice as to what I should do now? How would I change my status as a dependent to an independent student, and is there anything else I might have to worry about (like taxes, the IRS, etc)? Any advice on student loans? I'm also trying to find as many jobs as I can to start saving up money. Thanks guys!

I'm not trying to sound racist here, and I KNOW not ALL hispanic girls are like this, but I've noticed a lot of them, especially Puerto Rican and Peruvian girls, have really bad dispositions and serious hating problems. I'm half PR myself, and usually if there's a hispanic girl in one of my classes she's always giving me bad looks or has some kind of problem with me for no apparent reason. Why do they hate so much and act really snobby to people who don't even say or have nothing to do with them? It's the ghetto-acting ones that are like that, although even the upper-class, suburban ones can be that way too. Not ranting here, but especially if you live in NJ or NY, you know its largely true with a lot of them.

Ok heres the story... one of my college teachers from this last semester is pregnant and me and a few other girls from the class really like her alot.. at the end of the semester we took her out to lunch and showered her with baby gifts. I told her that I really liked her as not only a teacher but as a friend too. She replied by telling me to call her by her first name, implying that she wants to be friends too. Well, we are all going out to eat again towards the end of this month. I wrote her and asked her if that was ok and she said it was great.I was just wondering if it sounds fine to offer my help when she has her baby.I didnt want to seem weird since we dont know each other yet on a very personal level.. but i hope to. Do you think it was ok for me to tell her that?

how can an entire network of people still support those who only wish to remove cash from your hands and claim it's to support your god yet be found living the reverse christian life that they tell you is wrong, yet they can live secular and have all what they forbid you to have?

My cat was spayed almost two weeks ago, and she was given dissolvable stitches (so said the vet). The incision is healing really well. I'm just a little troubled by this hard, thread-like thing sticking out of the incision. It's very tiny (only about 1 mm long). Is this normal? My cat doesn't seem to be bothered by its presence and is behaving normally, but I'm worried nonetheless. Any experienced cat owners willing to shed some light on this, please? Thank you.

i am a single mom of 2 and love my kids more than anything, and I'm getting sad thinking about mothers day and all the stuff "other" moms will do and get tomorrow and I'll be lucky if there father even calls and tells me happy mothers day, although i shouldnt care it really makes me sad, my kids are so precious and i just dont understand how a parent woulnt want to be in their childs life, i take care of them by myself everyday and dnt ask any1 for any thing and their father doesnt appreciate it.. my mom always get me something from the kids for mothers day but i really dont want her 2 bc its not her responsibility... am i alone or do other ppl feel this way :-( i need encouragement...thanks

Spending my first years in San Francisco, found we have our own dialect. Then moved to Fresno CA learned a form of talking with our own sound.Then upon retireing moved to Oklahoma. I love the southern sound but many things were a challenge. While looking for a place to get the Utilities turned on came to find each thing has its own office. With the last name you would expect it to be. Our license needed to be changed and our car license plate. We were looking for the DMV office. There is no such animal. It is the Tag office.
electric is not PG & E but PSO. Find the guy that owns the gas well and pay him. The telephone is CRoss.
I cannot imagine the effort that foreigners must go through not even understanding the language. The city dump is the transfer station. A creek is a brook or a branch.
And a canyon is a hollar. When someone Hollars in Ca.
That is a loud noise. Has anyone else found the English language different in cities?

Although I'll have a degree in management, I'd like to find a graphic design job. I create computer art when I have some freetime and it's also my hobby. I'd like such a job so I think I'll try to find it in the future. Other than that, I don't have many plans for the future. Maybe I'll travel a bit after my graduation.

Why do you think so? (what opinions do you have on this topic && why do you think so?)

this year i am taking my 2nd year of spanish, but i would also like to start taking a second foreign language. Chinese really seems like the "language of the future" since China is really growing & undergoing expansion right now so it would be a really good language to know; on the other hand, what if I decide to move to Canada at some point in my life, where I have heard knowing French REALLY helps in getting a job, etc. since there are so many French-speakers in Canada. and plus i am already learning Spanish, so French would be much easier for me to learn

if you were in my shoes, which language would you take && why?? which language do you think it would be a greater advantage to learn?? any other reasons why i should take one of the languages and not the other??

i just want to hear lots of different people's opinions on this so feel free to write as much as you want!

I don't travel much, if I travel I do it only in the summer when I go to the countryside where my grandmother lives. I go there either by bus or with my family by car. I often spend my holidays there. Now I won't have holidays so I won't have time to go there.
