I'm a 22 year old girl thinking about moving to Chicago after I graduate college. I'm not at all familiar with the area, and I've only been once. I know most areas in the north are probably safe, but I don't know which areas are better than others...

The most helpful thing would be to hear from those who actually live in a certain area/street/building that they would recommend, and why.

Number one- it's a Christian camp (i'm athiest, but overly pious 'rents don't know that)

Number two- I have another summer that I accually WANT to go to (and I AM going, this would be in addition to that)

Number three- My father wants me to go (it's near his house) says I "need to make friends up there" (bullcrap, but that's another discussion)

I would sooner sit in an NYC alley overnight than go, but that's not an option. If you agree with my parents on this, don't bother posting.

I've used Mapquest.com a lot to find my driving directions.
But now I will be in NYC. I don't drive there. I guess I will be using public transportation a lot. Are there good websites help find a good commuting route via public transportations such as subway, etc.? Do they calculate commuting time based on public transportation data? For example, if I find using mapquest that from point A to point B in NYC is about 8 minutes driving, how can I convert it into a commuting time that is based on walking on foot, and subway, and possibly bus, etc.?
