My husband and I are thinking about taking a road trip along the east coast. We'll be leaving from Michigan and plan to head all the way up to Main. What would be a good route to take and what should we go see and do?

sounds like you folks are gonna have a good vacation. i am from fayetteville, wv and have traveled all the way to maine for a 2 week rafting and sightseeing excurcion. if you have the time travel a northern route to maine. this will give you the oppurtunity to see some beautiful country. upstate ny, vermont, new hampshire and maine are unbeleivable. i strongly suggest stopping at west forks, maine and try out some mountain biking or rafting. then on down to acadia national park. i've only ate lobster one time since then, because nothing beats getting it fresh off the boat. make sure you stay a night at bar harbor and get a good tour in of the park. from there it on down the coast. marthas vinyard, national seashore, and boston. one of my favorite cities. lots of history and a really cool aquarium. if you still have time it on down the coast to alot of historically significant areas. the liberty bell, dc, all of the old civil bar battlefields. then come on down to west virginia and spend some time at berkely springs(you'll love the spas, my better half did)oh, stay at the manor inn. from there head on down to seneca rocks and take a trip up to the top.( you can see forever up there) check out a couple of the caves their nice also. if you want to finish with a blast, head to fayetteville, wv via the monogahelia national forest, through cranberry wilderness area. awesome. actually have a good chance to see some black bear,(huge sanctuary) from there it's on to my home town. one of the first things you do is head to cathedral cafe and get some grub. then go rafting, biking, climbing, horseback riding, what ever you guys are up to. then the evening before you leave go and have dinner at smokeys on the gorge and watch the sun set. now i don't know if you can fit all of that in, but you asked the question and theres my answer. have a good trip and i look forward to seeing you on the river.

For your whole trip, i really do not know. If I were you though, I would definitely stop by Kennywood Amusement Park in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.
