Okay, I'm a 23 year old college grad who just got a sweet job with U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana. Knowing that Gary is kinda ghetto and I would like to live near the nightlife, hott chicks, bars, restaurants, etc, near Chicago. From the research I've done on here, it seems Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park are the hot spots to live. Are these areas near all the bars and nightlife or what? Also, can I park anywhere with my car/how hard is it to find parking? Finally, how long will my commute to U.S. steel be to Gary, Indiana. Thanks.

I'm looking for a friendly hotel not too far from 1 Market Place. I've got an aversion to antiseptic huge chains, huge hotels. Ideally it'd be in a place with neighborhood restaurants, although that's not a huge issue.

Trying to find a nice place to take the family on vacation. We are looking for a place with a lot of history. Something where you can eat different food that were prepared back then. A place where you can make cadles or other things. A nice place where you can get a good tour through history houses and other places. We want to show the kids how things were back then. A place where they can show how much different it was back then and see what they have now compaired to the way they had it a long time ago.

Last spring my best friend and I went to Galveston for a day to see Moody Gardens. We drove down by the seawall to get there, and all day long I felt like my contacts were aggravating. Itchy watery eyes, etc, which is common if my eyes are tired. I took my lenses out and got no relief. On the way out of town, I stopped at a pharmacy and got antihistimine drops and used, and within a half hour I was fine.

So my concern is that my brother just bought a boat, and wants me to join him and his friends for a day on the water at Crystal Beach this weekend. I don't know if I should worry, even if I bring the drops and wear glasses instead.

My question is if allergies are common there for others, and if it is due to the sea water (my first exposure), the pollution, or a certain season of pollen unique to that area.

I am not usually an "allergy" person and I have lived a lot of places with no problems, but that day in Galveston I was MISERABLE.

Locals and visitors please chime in!

I am going skiing in Telluride end of February, i've never been there before. We are flying directly into Telluride on a small private jet and i hear it can be a bit hairy. Is it unsafe? Is it really that scary? Any insight would be great.

Many people say that L.A. is a model of diversity and diversity is a great thing. But is it really diverse in real terms, and could there be a such thing as being overly diverse?

This is how I see it. First, I value learning from all types of people - it definitely makes life interesting. But, at the same time, socially speaking I generally enjoy being around people with whom I can relate. I think that is human nature. It's hard to find many people to become friends with in L.A. because in some ways the city is overly diverse.

Moreover, many ethnic groups tend to socialize with their own people anyhow - so the idea of being a "melting pot" is inaccurate. The Armenians hang with other Armenians, the Mexicans with other Mexicans, the Persians with other Persians, etc.

I think the lack of unity in L.A. is a major drawback. L.A. is not diverse in practical terms - this is not a melting pot...it's just a collection of fragments.
