Cleveland ROCKS. :-) Seriously - Cleveland is a great place to live. I've lived in two different states & just moved back for good in May of last year.
Cost of living really depends a lot on where and how you choose to live. Houses can run from the low $100s (sometimes even lower) to more than $400k. What I like is that you can choose from new construction, or grab one of the older homes w/personality. :-)
There's a ton of stuff to do...from museums to concerts, sports, nightlife.
I don't know where you live now, but I think you'll be happy with the move here.

It's a great place to live. I grew up near Cleveland, then spent 4 years near Cincinnati for undergraduate and it made me realize how wonderful Cleveland is. It's safe, it's clean, and there's a lot to do because of all the sports teams, museums (art, history, science, Rock-n-Roll!), and there's always something going on in the city. And it's really beautiful since it's right on the lake.
Like the others have said, it's really better to live in a suburb because if they live in the city at all, people don't live in the center of the city where the buildings are... they live in the outskirts... the houses around there are pretty old, small, and generally dirty looking. The suburb is probably going to be more expensive, but worth it. And Cleveland schools and the Cleveland police aren't the greatest... so live nearby Cleveland.
Before you move you should know that Cleveland has some of the wierdest weather in the world. A lot of people get here and think they'll like the snow, but then they hate the cold and snow. Particularly if you live on the east side of cleveland you get a lot of snow. They say that Cleveland drivers are some of the best in the world at dealing with winter conditions because it snows so often and we still have to go to work. And there's this strange effect from the lake that Cleveland rarely sees the sun in the winter... It's usually very gray with overcast skies. Then in the summer it's the opposite (usually so... right?)... it gets hot and stays hot and there's periods we go without rain when we really need it.
Anyway, Cleveland is absolutely great. I'd brave the weather conditions any day instead of moving somewhere else. I'm sure you'll love it too!

Excuse most of the post Cleveland has a long standing history of East Side vs. West side & everyone always wants to say how the East side is terrible but it's actually very nice and very diverse areas. Some of the places mentioned are not as crime ridden as some people try to say. Anyways I don't see why you wouldn't want to live in Mayfield Hts. it's near your job, and the free way so if you want to go downtown you're right there, also there is a lot places to go shopping in that area. Non free way access to Mayfield Hts area nice places would be Cleveland Hts., University Hts., Lyndhurst, Richmond Heights, Beachwood, and South Euclid. & yes there is a very large Jewish population over here on the East side. There are parts of Euclid that is really nice and also Wickcliff isn't that far away from Mayfield Hts either. If you like a more diverse area with a lot of unique shops check out Cleveland Hts.

Cleveland is a great town. It takes some getting to know, because it isn't known for all its art and culture, but it has lots of both of these. It is packed with Universities, theatres and fine restaurants (eat at Fat Fish Blue!!, or Pickwick and Frolic!)
And the cost of living in Cleveland is quite low. When you get there, check out Coventry, which is a trendy area in Cleveland Heights in the suburbs. You HAVE to have a car to get around in Cleveland, but there is a decent bus adn RTA trains system for those occasions when cars are a problem.
When it re-opens in a couple of years after a major overhaul, go to the Cleveland Museum of Art. It is one of the best in the whole country. You wouldn't believe how many extremely famous paintings they have.
I am trying to get into grad school at Case Western, and when and if i get there, I'll be happy to show you around.
PS The Cleveland Symphony is one of the top 10 orchestras in the world. And the Warehouse District nightlife ain't too shabby.

Depends on what you like. I prefer to live in Columbus metro; but have friends that adore Cleveland -- and we usually end up at Browns/Indian games or just out and about down town a few times a year. They had a place in the city and loved it and now live out in the suburbs and miss the downtown vibe. So is it a good place to live? Sure.

I suggest you find a suburb to live in.. don't live in the city, if you can help it..
The school systems in the suburbs are much better.. the person before me was really accurate regarding the cost of real estate.. it's pretty low on the scale of cost of living.
There are a lot of fun things to do here in the summer.. Winter is kind of quiet.. we're all too cold and crabby :-)
Good luck!
Email me if you have any direct questions regarding suburb areas..
