My husband is going to be starting Berkeley business school in the fall so we have to move to SF from NYC.

I have been dying to get a place with a yard, I'm so sick of being cramped up in a tiny NYC apartment.

The only rental houses with yards that I can find for under $2,000/month close to Berkeley are in Oakland. Is that a safe area?

It doesn't have to be pristine, I've lived on the South Side of Chicago for 5 years and in East Harlem in NYC for 4 years without incident but I'm worried about drive-bys. LOL I know that sounds so dumb and stereotypical but I know nothing about Oakland or the Bay Area!

I have a friend in Fresno that doesn't drive. Flying is too expensive and so is a cab of course. There is the train+bus option ($60) as a backup.

Anyone know anything better? Maybe a shuttle service? Or a direct bus?

I saw a documentary on the health issues people are facing after helping with cleanup at ground zero?
Does anyone know have first hand knowledge of what happened to the tons of $$ raised by the celbrity telethons? Did it all go to families rather than some helping these people who can hardly walk up a flight of stairs much less work anymore?

I am from Sioux Falls, SD and will be making a big move to come and live in the city of Chicago. We are two females in our early twenties and would like some advice on safe places to live, with some fun and entertainment nearby. We will not have alot of money starting out so affordability is key. I will be bringing my dog along, so a safe place for when I take him outside is pretty important. I live in Cali, Colombia South America.... I am also a Northamerican citizen. My question is how can I ask for a driver liscenes, do I have to do the course, present the exams, or only presenting my licenses from another country will work in order to get a northamercian licenses.
