Can the route be driven in the winter time or are roads closed? i will be flying into pdx at 10pm and wanted to drive through the night to ski the next day. Any thoughts?

Mt Hood is closer ... just an hour outside of Portland ...
Anyway ... to get to Bend from the Portland airport ....
take I-84 west all the way to I-5 South, the two merge together, then go to Salem and follow signs to Santiam Pass .... I am not positive of the highway number or where it forks off, but a convenience store or service station, or the car rental company itself should be able to guide you.
The Santiam Pass is on of the major passes and is usually open, but you will want to check pass conditions before you head out.
The drive should take approximately 3 hours ... guestimate.
