I love the Leeuloop ad as well as the one for the Hyundai Tucson where they have the girl open the bottle with her eye, with the pay-off line of "pretty, but tough"...

from what this section is "supposed" to be? I have noticed someone saying that this is supposed to be a travel section, and our discussions doesn't conform. Which led me to think about the time I got reported for answering in Afrikaans...

Do you think this section should be used for our discussions (ie carry on the way we are), or should we post in the Political section if we want to whinge about our government, and post in the Entertainment section if we want to tell jokes?

I personally like using this section for all things South African, not only travel. Would we all get reported!?

I'm NOT reverting to form and trying to piss everybody off.

However, whenever I've brought up the issues of the out-of-control AIDS and runaway crime, I get told that it's 'not that bad' or 'we're an emerging democracy' or, my personal favorite, 'every place has crime'.
Every place does have crime, but nowhere near the volume or barbaric nature of what's going on in SA, and pretending that all is well is not helping you. You can deny reality, until it puts a gun in your face, or blows your head off.

I've lived in my neighborhood in New York for 6 years, and I've NEVER seen any crime.

My other favorite is being told you're an 'emerging democracy'. Guys, you're anything but. The ANC, like Robert Mugabe, will never give up power. Why should they? In the position they are in now, they can spend all your money with impunity, and blame everything on apartheid.
I wish that all goes well for every one of you, I really do - but you can't ignore the chaos around you.

These are my reasons:
1. We are always late. We would have missed all 4 flights.
2. Mooi girls on the plane would distracted us.
3. We talk kak loud and bring attention to ourselves.
4. Met kos en cooldrink oppie plane, we’ll soema forget why we’re there in the first place.
5. We praat with our hands, so we must put the weapons down.
6. We would have ALL wanted to fly the plane.
7. We’ll soema argue and start a fight on the plane.
8. Os kannie ‘n secret keep nie. We would have told everyone a week before doing it.
9. We would have put our rainbow flag on the windshield and last but not least…
10. We would have all lined up to get our photograph taken by one of the hostages.

Can you add to the list?

I'm having a little 'get- together' next Saturday. All of the guys are South African and they are all beer drinkers, but prefer wine. Some of the Japies like wine too much! Should I go with Korean beer or try and impress them with South African wine? They are all coming from the Korean countryside to Seoul and haven't had SA wine in a long time. My choices are Johannisberger (8dollars), Nederburg Chardonnay (12 dollars), St. Raphael (5dollars) and any Douglas Greene wine (18 dollars). What do you guys think?

I like Brian Mitchell, but I think some of you guys may like Gerrie more. Or even Baby Jakes Matlala. What do you think about the "White Buffalo"? Francois Botha even fought Tyson! Is he the best? Any opinion is ok. And if you think you are the best boxer currently, that's still ok! Another fun question. No need to argue...just be honest!

You guys have got me thinking about South Africa more than I have in years.
You also know what I think of your present so-called government.

Realistically speaking - without the usual cheerfulness in spite of the dark reality - what happens to South Africa in the next 10 years or so?
I know the usual suspects will insist that the country is being run by misunderstood saints, but really, all B.S. aside, what happens to the land of gold and diamonds in the coming decade?

An elderly fisherman was at home, dying in bed, when he smelled his favourite aroma, chocolate chip biscuits bahing. He wanted one last cookie before he died, so he crawled to the kitchen, reached up to the cookie sheet on the table and grasped a warm, moist chip. His wife suddenly hit his hand with a spatula and yelled, Leave them alone. They're for the funeral.

I'm a South African and live in South Korea. The recent nuclear test by North Korea worried me a lot. Technically the North and South is still at war here and if anything happens, will South Korea be in harms way? And how will South African citizens be evacuated? I got a letter from the SA Embassy 5 years ago that said I need to go to a certain area and await instructions in case of war. What is your view as a South African on this situation and do you have any idea about some evacuation plan?
