Any Umkhonto we Sizwe guys out there, I have no idea if you had a similar fitness test, but if you did, what was your best time?

Anria - when I was on the border, I used to trade stuff in my ration - packs. We all did.
I have respect for your dad, too.
The SADF was no joke.
Ask him what his time for the 2 comma 4 was. That's what we used to call it.

marrs attack - after basics, I was off to KD Skool in Pretoria for JL's.
Volle uitpak inspeksie every day for nine months. And we kakked for about forty minutes after each inspection.
2 comma 4 every week, until our last two weeks, and then it was every day.

All ex-National Servicemen that I know have similar stories.
Bottom line - the SADF was no joke.

And nobody's winging or whining - being in the army was one of the best things that happened to me.

Hi Brad, don't know if this is related, but when my Dad was on the Grens, he use to swap his rations, esp peas which he cant stomach, to locals for African beer.
My ouma also use to send him salami, which he would trade for all kinds of things, cigarettes etc.
He always complains that there was never enough meat there.
I have a lot of respect for my father for what he went through at age 18. I cant imagine living in such a reality.

Listen, as a girl growing up in a time when all white guys were called to 2 years military service I have to say that you all grew up really fast. You went in boys and came out young men who - for the main part - knew exactly what you wanted to do with your lives.

Your basic training might not have been particularly good but in retrospect it did you all the world of good!

Stop winging - I bet you have never again been so fit !
