I'm a South African and live in South Korea. The recent nuclear test by North Korea worried me a lot. Technically the North and South is still at war here and if anything happens, will South Korea be in harms way? And how will South African citizens be evacuated? I got a letter from the SA Embassy 5 years ago that said I need to go to a certain area and await instructions in case of war. What is your view as a South African on this situation and do you have any idea about some evacuation plan?

To Queen B: I did go to the SA Embassy this afternoon to renew my passport, but was told to come back next Thursday. The lady there was Korean and said that she doesn't know of any evac plan, but that the Consular may have an answer on Thursday. I want to know about other countries as well. Those living abroad.

I cannot really say, but my cousin was in Lebanon recently with the war there and Foreign Affairs got them out very fast by a request to UK and other European countries. South Africans were evacuated safely two days before the USA evacuated their people. I do think you should ask at the embassy, but also know that the government (Foreign Affairs) acts very fast in such circumstances, as we saw with Lebanon.

Hey Porgie...Hmmm, don't know why I am answering cause I don't really know..but I must say I have been wondering about the
situation there and how safe is South Korea really...Maybe a good idea would be to contact the embassy? I should think that there should be a plan to evacuate people..I know in other countries like Iraq and where the tsunami whas there certainly was a good and quick response by the embassies...I think maybe ask the embassy...good luck and I hope everything gets sorted with North Korea..

no longer many CAN get out notwithstanding in the event that they needed to. particular international locations prefer a down value which would be saved for type of 5 years. Others prefer especially qualified human beings purely. the linked fee of the rand is a humorous tale in Europe.....you are able to think of you have some thing significant even with the undeniable fact that it finally ends up being a tip! some international locations do no longer settle for easily everybody over the age of 40! it rather is a faux yet simple theory that each and every 2d South African has twin citizenship. that's purely no longer authentic! Many white South Africans have nowhere to pass.....yet whilst given the alternative....they wont leave besides!

Most embassies have rough sorta evacuation plans. Look how quickly they got all the Europeans and American citizens out of Rwanda back then when it's civil unrest broke out in 1994.
At least you're planning to come home for a visit in the next few months, so consider yourself partially ready.
Hope all goes well and that you experience no problems.

I know the embassy in Japan requires you to register with them, so that they have a rough idea of how many there are, etc. Also, they keep in regular contact. When I was there (over a 3 year period), I must have received about 20 e-mails from them.

I love the embassy in Japan, because they always invited us to go to the Ambassador's house to watch the rugby or cricket and they usually gave us boerewors and biltong! yummy!
