I wish I had the time and money to do so. Did that 2 years ago (didn't make it all up to Durban though), and I had a great time! Try to make a stop somewhere on the Garden Route and in Coffee Bay (Transkei) - paradise on earth!

A beautifull country, but in this day and age the crime is quite high there,(as it is in other countries) and it would not be safe to hitch hike, but it should be quite safe to get around on public transport. I wish I was going back and I know you will enjoy the experience. Have a good time!
