I made it a mission to learn the words.
I now know the first stanza (the Zulu and Xhosa bit) off by heart, but I still seem to forget the second stanza (the Sotho bit)
I know the Afrikaans bit all to well, so well in fact that I often accidental want to continue after "waar die kraanse antwoord gee".
Apartheid hadn't ended when I was in early primary school, and I remember being sat down, and us singing "Uit die Blou" over and over again for almost two hours, until we knew it all.
When Nkosi Sekelele came along, a teacher from the local township school came to teach us it. But she was only there for 1/2 hour, and once she left, no one bothered to continue. I wish they had, I feel like an idiot, still mumbling once I get halfway.

I studied music and we had to perform this anthem! So I know it off by heart. I love singing it and playing it on the piano!!! It makes me feel proud being a South African!
