Hey all..winning the oscar for Tsotsi and getting a nomination last year for Yesterday was great, but I just read in the Pretoria News that local film makers find it difficult to get funds for their films and also to get to distribute it is a bit of a hassle..what do you think can be done to help to get the stories out there - the good films that make a difference in peoples lives? And no negativity please..

Since I've been submitting my questions, I've done a lot of research into politics and social change in SA since I left.

The answers I get on this forum indicate this -

a) There has been a complete revolution in SA, and the Afrikaner minority is now paying for the sins of the fathers
There is an ethnic cleansing of boers happening, as over 1000 farmers and their families have been slaughtered on one end, and on the other, the ANC has brilliantly twisted Affirmative Action laws into a modern interpretation of the Nuremberg Laws, assuring that those who aren't killed, will starve

b) The younger generation - of whites and blacks alike - know only the propaganda fed them by the ANC, and so only know about the evils of apartheid, but not the habitable, safe, modern country SA was 15 years and more ago
Hillbrow used to be great

c) And because of the above, that generation does not realise the extent of the AIDS and chaos going on around them

Am I wrong?
If so, say why.

The colored people of South Africa have a language of their own. Do you know any good slang they use? Mine is "fadala". The meaning of it is too explicit to post on Yahoo Answers. Another fun question, guys! No need to argue.

I listen to South African radio stations daily. And every news bulletin has to report on crime stats. Do we need these stats in order to point finger or do we need it to makes ourselves believe that the government wants to be open about it? Apartheid restricted the mobility of a person. Now that everyone can go anywhere, isn't it obvious that the crime stats will increase? And why is white-collar crime almost never mentioned in these stats?

I'm a teacher and it's that time of the year...culture week! Apart from the obvious (Apartheid, Mandela, Rugby, etc.), what are some other interesting topics I can put on the list for next week? Keep in mind that the students don't speak English very well and hardly ever heard of South Africa.

It's interesting to read people attributing the rampant crime in what used to be South Africa to poverty, unemployment, apartheid - the usual suspects.
The real reason is the corrupt, uncaring ANC government, and by extension, the equally corrupt, inept so-called police force.

Take a look at this -

I've been away for a while, but the last time I was here we were all fighting with that Mantos is a Pantos person....I think Brad Morris is the same person...Just taking a different angle to p*ss us off. I haven't even been on line for half an hour and he's already irritating the sh*t out of me. Who else is feeling the "Brad Morris" irritation?

This is a serious question.

If we look at the population stats for South Africa...

http://www.southafrica.info/ess_info/sa_glance/demographics/population.htm

...then we figure in the people with HIV - as well as babies being born HIV positive...

http://www.pgaf.org/pressreleases/south_africa_stats.html

http://hivinsite.UCSF.edu/global?page=cr09-sf-00

...then we take into account the rape epidemic...

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_rap-percap-crime-rapes-per-capita

...and specifically the monstrous phenomenon of child rape...

http://www.scienceinafrica.co.za/2002/april/rape.htm

http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2005/12/22486_children_raped_in_04.php

...then we figure in your everyday crime statistics...

http://www.christianaction.org.za/articles_ca/2003-3-MURDER_IN.htm

...and the coming famine...

http://www.msnusers.com/crimebustersofsouthafrica

...how soon will you run out of Proud South Africans?
