I was on the New York City Housing Authority list for low- income housing for 12 years. Finally, after renting a furnished room in a Brooklyn ghetto area, I got my NYCHA letter of acceptance into the Far Rockaway (Queens) projects.

I was overjoyed for finally getting a chance to rent my very own apartment with view of the beach. However, little did I know what awaited me in the projects:

1-loud noise all hours of the day
2-gang activities on the outer perimeter of the building
3-prostitution inside and outside the building
4-drugs lords everywhere from the A train to the beach to the projects
5-urine and poop in the elevators
To make a long story short, I decided, after 3 months without solid rest and sleep time, to give up my apartment. My rent was $387, which nonexistent in NYC.
What do you say about my sad story?
Have any of you ever experienced disappointment to such a degree that it leaves you feeling without hope?
How many of you ever lived in the projects?

I was thinking of flying from Miami to Antigua for my honeymoon. Has anyone ever been there or have any thoughts? I was also just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for honeymoons, either inside or outside of the U.S. I mainly want to stay around the ocean, either on a cruise or some sort of island or resort. Thanks!

We are going on the Majesty of the Sea for our honeymoon. Can anyone tell me how the 6th floor is? We go a F1 Ocean Stateroom. If you can explain it to me or email me pics it would be great. I am just curious. Is it quite at night or is there alot of noise?

I am travelling to Canada from NJ, US for a week long vacation with my family and wanted to know what is the best way to buy Canadian dollars - my requirement is only around $ 400- 500 canadian. My concern is I do not want to get hurt with exchange rate loss.

Going to see Les Miserables in London @ the Queen's Theater. What do people dress like when going to the theater in London? I certainly don't want to feel overdressed but I want to wear something nice...

Going to san diego in october and we already booked a room here. They said it was newly renovated and i asked for one of those rooms and they said it had an ocean view. I know its a best western so i'm assuming it looks like any other one. Has anyone stayed there is it crappy and a waste of money?

I found a co-op in Woodhaven, NY (Boro of Queens by Forest Park) -- it is a 2 bedroom for 145,000 with a monthly maint. of 566 and flip tax of 18,000 upon selling in the future. The place is in ok condition- kitchen needs to be redone and paint walls, polish floors.

I don't know if I should follow through though because I keep hearing that real estate prices will still be coming down for at least a good year - so should I wait?

What is the outlook for NYC-Queens Co-ops....

I'm 18
and ive always wanted to just get out of my little town and discover other countries
i'm really interested in goin to america for an extended holiday
for about the minimum of 1 month
maybe stay on longer if i like it.
Even though i know its going to cost alot of money
i wanted advice on the cheaper options available
To be honest i dont really want it to be a holiday
i just want to experience the lifestyle.
If i do stay for only a month im guessing it wud be easier and cheaper to find somewhere to stay.
but if i decide to stay for slightly longer what are my options?

I would love to go somewhere like LA but from reading some things on here it doesnt really seem like the right place for me to go on my own. is there anywhere quieter than LA but still have the qualities.
I dont want to go somewhere that isnt going to give me the expericance i want.
How can i get started with my plans?
How much do you think i'll need in total in £'s.

any advice would be great thanks
