All my friends and family really hate the idea of me leaving our town, but it's something I've always wanted to do, live in New York City. I will be graduating from uni in a year and half with a degree in information technology (starting salary is about 40,000-45,000 and up). I hope to work and live at home for a year to save up money and then I hope to move and live there for 2 years. If my salary goes up to 50,000, do you think I will be able to afford a one bedroom for about 1600-1800 a month in a nice neighborhood with a view? It's my dream to live there and it's something I really want. Are my friends and family right though? Is it too crazy of an idea?
What are good neighborhoods and what are some neighborhoods to avoid? Going to school has taught me how to manage money quite well but yea, am I being realistic? Or do I need to seriously wake up?
