Dear Belgian fellows:
I know Belgium has three official languages - Dutch, French and German.

1. In Belgium, if a Dutch speaker(Flemish) and French speaker(Walloon) meet in the street, which language would they communicate in?
Would it be Dutch, French or English?

2. From what I've heard, Flemish(Dutch speakers) speak both English and French quite well while Walloons(French speakers) only speak French.
Is that true? If so, why is that?
Are Walloons not smart or diligent enough to learn a foreign language?

3. If you are a Dutch speaker(Flemish) in Belgium, which foreign language is more popular and more important to learn at school?
English or French??

4. If you are a French speaker(Walloon) in Belgium, which foreign language is more popular and more important to learn at school?
English or Dutch??

I'll be waiting for Belgians' answers.

I go to Belgium quite a bit but have not yet visited Brussels. I am going to in two weeks time though and would like to know where is a good place to eat. (please don't mention mussells as I don't like them). Also I have heard that there is a good daily flea market there. Anyone have details please?

It appears from the answers I got here, Belgium in December is a BAD idea. So ... is March any better? Would there be more opportunities for seeing the sights during that month?

I am visiting one of Europe's most beautiful & best preserved medieval cities, which is (apparently) easy to explore on foot, by horse drawn-carriage or canal boat; however, this is for one day only as I am visiting via Eurotunnel. Could anyone provide me tourist information (including a useful website with, if possible, a map) with the different things that I could visit? Museums, sights and anything else which is achievable by foot within a short period of time; plus, anything else which is a must to see (Nevertheless, I am looking forward checking out the tempting Belgian chocolates, beautiful handmade lace & mouth watering beers). Cheers!
