It appears from the answers I got here, Belgium in December is a BAD idea. So ... is March any better? Would there be more opportunities for seeing the sights during that month?

I've been to Belgium at all different times of the year, and March is an excellent month. The more touristy destinations tend to get overrun in April, so you'll have room to breathe in March.

I agree with the previous respondant in that Belgium is a great 'stopping off' point, but it's an excellent primary destination in its own right. Brussels tops the list of cities to see, but don't overlook Brugge with its charming network of canals (the so-called 'Venice of the North'), and Antwerp and its diamond-cutting trade.

Enjoy your trip!

Missed your question before, but yes december is a bad idea. March will be better. My choice would be end april beginning may. While belgium has enough to keep you busy, think about Netherlands (north), bulbtime, and France (south),
Brussel to Amsterdam is 21/2 hours and Antwerp less then 2 hours. That's Holland. Now France, Paris. With the fast train you are there in about 3 hours. And all the time if you are lucky nice weather and temperature. If you do not demand lux hotels you will find easily decent hotels single room about 40 euro a night in all three countries and double 60

I have been in Belgium several different times of the year, and I always liked it.
But 26-12 is a difficult date!

March should give no problems, specially if you do city type things.
And if it is stormy weather, a visit to the beach for a nice wave watching session followed by hot chocolate (with alcohol in it if you prefer) is a good.

If you are the active kind of people, walking in the woods, Belgium has many, in late winter, early spring is good too.

i didn't see your first question until now and it's true you only got discouraging answers ;-)

if weather conditions are important to you, it's true that december isn't the best time to visit. but there's no garantees weather will be much better in march ... so my advice would be to come to belgium when it suites you.

finding a place to stay in central brussels shouldn't be to difficult: on www.booking.com you'll certainly find something to your wishes

as for what to do: depends on your field of intrest. brussels has great 16th century buildings, but it also has beautiful late 19th century architecture. it has a lot of interesting museums and you should try the gueuze-beer. Maybe it's not really the mussels season, but if you find them, have a go ...

Bruges, Gent, Antwerp, Doornik - I'm not trying to be exhaustive - are some other interesting cities to visit - visit their websites to get an idea

enjoy your visit!

Belgium in December can be nice if you want to do some Christmas shopping but you should choose another season such as spring or summer.

I HOPE so!.....I've booked for March already...it won't be hot , might rain...but hotels are cheap and its not high season...so can view at leisure!
Have a good time - whenever you go....I am going to Sablon in Brussels for some antique shopping...and chocolate eating...and beer drinking....and will probably sample the mussels and fries!!!
