Look for other cities too. You may find cheap airfare to Amsterdam and just take a train. There are many options in Europe. You could even fly to the UK and take a ferry.
Think outside the box and remember trains in EU are not Amtrack.

Maybe you could try to fly to London and from there fly an airline like Ryan Air to Brussels?
I was in London a few years ago and flew to Brussels for a few days to see my cousins. The airfare on Ryan Air was very cheap. But, the flight left from Stanstead (not Heathrow) and more importantly (and to my cousins' and my surprise) it flew into the Charleroi airport, which is technically "Brussels" but is more akin to saying McArthur airport (in Long Island) is in NYC (it isn't).
Still, Ryan Air was very cheap and the train fare to/from London to Stanstead airport and to/from Charleroi airport to Brussels Central Station was not very expensive.

This is a good website for flying within europe but has some good but limited options for flying to europe....it will give you some ideas as to costs anyway
