My wife and I are going to London later this year. We are staying here:
Renaissance Heathrow Airport
800-346-8357
Bath Road
Heathrow
London, GB

What's the nearest Tube station from this address? If it's in LHR, can I just take the hotel shuttle to the airport and just catch the train from there?

I'm very familiar with the New York City subway. I guess I was just wondering how easy it is compared to that one?

One more question. In New York, it's all about your direction: Downtown, Uptown, Bronx, Brooklyn..etc..

What are the dominant directions that are posted in the Tube to keep you headed in the right direction?

I have no idea where your stop is, though there are quite a few stops on the line between Heathrow and the majority of the underground.

The tube isn't that hard... basically there are a bunch of different lines, the district, piccadilly, circle line etc. You always want to listen for where the final destination is, because you have to figure out if your destination is on the way or not. Pick up a map if you can find one it makes things much easier. And if you get lost it's fairly easy to just get off and find the right line.

The tube serves 275 stations, including Shoreditch (closed, yet served by utilising a replace bus service, till Shoreditch severe highway station opens as component to the East London Line Extension). Fourteen Underground stations are exterior better London, of which 5 (Amersham, Chalfont & Latimer, Chesham, Chorleywood, Epping) are previous the M25 London Orbital highway.

Don't stay there if you are in London for more than a day. The shuttle bus to the airport costs £4 each way and then you have the underground fare on top of that. It will take over an hour to get to central London from your hotel.
There are plenty of cheaper hotels in London and you will save money in travel and have more time to look around.

I think the Tube is confusing. It's a good thing I always have my English husband there to follow around.

I do know that the Tube "maps" are not at all representative of what is on the surface!

Add: whenever we are in London we stay at the Euston Station Ibis. Very close to the Tube (Euston) and affordable yet comfortable hotel.

Heathrow Station is at the end of the Piccadilly Line (the dark blue one). It is the station which serves Heathrow Airport and is clearly the right one for your hotel. Here is a map. It is not geographically accurate, but it helps you get around. http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/travel/downloads/tube_map.html
You will want to acquire a tourist travel card for the time you're in London. http://www.londontoolkit.com/briefing/travelcard.htm
