I am not one to be paranoid, but I have heard Los Angeles is a dangerous city, and I want to know if those holds true for Tourists and the areas tourists usually visit. I may be going to LA in October this year and I want to know that if we are going to Disneyland, the Hollywood Sign, Walk of Fame, Paramount Studios, Six Flags, Griffith Observatory, and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Are these areas safe, or safe to get to? What are the best and safest ways to get there?

Forgive my ignorance if this is really paranoid.

I used to live there and then made the most idiotic move of my life - back to Tampa....I cannot and will not move back until my aunt passes away (and I am in NO hurry for that!!!). I last lived there in 2000 - what are some changes....what is the weather like - ice storms, coldness?? What changes? I know apartments are still decently priced - not like here!!!! How about Receptionist, Secretarial and Administrative Assistant jobs? Pleantiful? Pay well?

I'm planning on travelling from Montréal, QC to Lake Charles,LA.

I have a Montréal - New York ticket with Air Canada and a New York - Houston flight with Continental Airlines.

Will my luggage follow between both airlines or do I have to get it back and check it in again in New York? The problem is I don't have much time in NY and I feel checking in my luggage there would make me miss my connecting flight. I know that when you're flying the same airline, it's checked to your final destination.

What about for different airlines?

How do I help my mum? She keeps sending money to her family in Cebu and she cannot afford to, and she doesnt want to but yet they keep asking asking asking for more money, it is never ending. I keep telling her just dont do it, but she is too nice to say no. We live in Australia by the way, and she has given PLENTY of money over the years and its really upsetting me that they keep asking because she needs a new car and this and that, but she has to help them, they are taking advantage of her. So from a filipino point of view what is a nice but effective way to say no?
