Since your from San Diego, you should go somewhere in the Mid-west. Maybe the Black hills in SD and Mt Rushmore and If you drive maybe Mall of america and Any fishing resort up here in Northern Minnesota...grab some fresh country air and some sweet smelling lake country water. Come live the slow..lazy summer life up here...have a great time where ever you go.

If you want to stay in California, drive up to Yosemite the longer route via Bishop. Be sure and stop to eat at the gourmet restaurant in the Lee Vining gas station!
Hang out in Tulomne Meadows for a couple of days and then go down to the valley. Remember to book right away! Reservations for camping start 5 months out so you are looking at July now.
From Yosemite, drive to San Francisco for a few days, then down the coast to Monterey, Big Sur and San Luis Obispo.
If you want to get out of California and have a great time, go to Costa Rica and be sure and spend at least three days in Manuel Antonio area. It will be a bit rainy in the summer but the land is fresh and green!

Is is just adults or are there kids involved. If you have kids, I would recommend at least part of it be a road trip where you visit Washingon D.C. and the surrounding area. Then maybe a few days at Disney World. There are also supposed to be some great aquariums on the east coast. If you were to go to Washington D.C., plan on at least 4-5 days to see everything - just the museums and monuments on the national mall can take 2-3 days.

Do you live in San diego or traveling to San Diego? If you are going to San Diego I would recommend going to Mission Bay and stay either at the Catamaran hotel directly on the bay or rent a condo there. I have been going with my family every summer for 2 weeks for the last 7 years. There are a million things to do, beach is near by, seaworld, san diego zoo, old town, you can rent bikes and water sport stuff, and there are fire works you can see from the bay every night at 9:00 pm! Enjoy if you are going to San Diego, and even if you live there, stop by the bay sometime, you might enjoy it!

Go to Wisconsin Dells. Part of the time, you can camp out, other part go to the water park, another part going to all the neat amusement parks and museums they have there. Don't miss the Duck! It is awesome. And if you still have a day or two, drive down to Chicago and walk around the city, go to Navy Pier. Eat at the Hard Rock McDonalds.
