I am about to do something stupid i think in the name of finding a hobby ! I am a decent wood worker and have decided to make an attempt to hand make a stock set for a Marlin guide gun .450. I have already purchased the wood in Walnut in XXXXFancy Grade. Im going to do some engraving on the wood aswell as the reciever. I have 2 questions:

1. Although I have been working with wood for some time i have never worked with walnut. Im looking for that high luster shine and Im not sure how to get it other than prep work for the wood. Is there a particular coat of finish Im looking for ?

2. I will be hand engraving the wood as I have done this and its not that hard, what I havent done is engrave metal by hand and was wondering if (A) Anyone has any good info on it & if it brings any more challenges to the table over wood. (B) If there is a particular brand or type of tools anyone recomends.

I thank you in advance for help which will no doubt end with a rifle only I will want !!!!

I am applying for my gun permit to carry concealed weapon ( I work late hours) anyhow I am looking for a good handgun. I have lots of experience with rifles and shotguns; grew up hunting with my grandpa and uncle. But not handguns; I have no preference whether revolver or pistol. Just not to heavy, easy to clean and maintain, load and unload. I want stopping power but dont want a kick (bad). any help or advice would be appreciated? Also dont want to spend alot under 200 maybe 300

This little guy was about the only thing gobbling, had three hens with him and the tips of his wing feathers all roughed up like he had been strutting. I assumed (key word) that there are no longer any toms in the area. What do you guys think?

Also, beware, the ticks and skeeters are thick already.

Ladies, lets show the nation we know how to properly handle firearms(men aren't the only ones)! Enrollment in the NRA's "Women on Target" program-which involves shooting instruction, hunting trips, and marksmanship-rose to more than 6000 in 2006, and it 2000 it had only 500 members! Gun manufacturers are responding to this fast growing demographic by making smaller models that fit better in women's hands. What do you think? I'll tell you from personal experience there is nothing more fun than firing a an AK-47(outfitted with a rapid fire mechanism) at a shooting range with the girls!

i wish to extract the propellant from a 9mm round. i do not have the luxury of an appropriate tool so have been messing with a couple of pairs of pliers. in those rare moments when the voices in my head are silent i wonder whether this process might be a little dangerous. i did drop the pliers on my foot and that hurt.

I live in southern michigan, and its not allowed to shoot rifles where I am at, however, I am looking to get a rifle for target, and small game shooting around our farm, I am trying to decide between a .17 a .22, or a .223. The .223 rifles are far larger bullets, just wondering what you would recommend. I dont want to attract too much attention, would a 223 be way too loud?

Would a shotgin with a 26 inch barrel be more accurute with rifled slugs than an 18 inch barrel? Would it also be any better at keeping a closer pattern at longer range? Thanks!

OK I found out that its possibly a Czech 98 Mauser Copy. Its bolt action. The guy that looked at it said its a really nice piece. The scope itself he said is worth about 50. The gun he wasn't sure of he is gonna call me tomorrow after he looks it up. He said there is NO opening on the bottom which is a good thing but I don't know why. He said the wood working is very nice nice cause its engraved with like feather patterns. Can someone give me a possible figure of what its worth?

I've been getting more and more interested in trying out competitive shooting in a rifle class. I live near two gun ranges, but neither one has more than a two hundred yard range. I've never shot competitively and wanted to know what to expect and what should I do to get ready?
