Deputy beat me to the answer. I'd recommend nothing less than 22 magnum. If you like the 22 caliber rounds for yote hunting, you'd like the 22 hornet, the 22-250(outstanding ballistics), .223(or 5,56) , I'd stay away from 22lr simply because you can never be assured of a humane kill, the margin for error in shot placement is too great.

Ive never hunted a coyote before, however I know a .22 LR works great on fox's, so I assume it would be fine to use for coyotes, but check with your local sheriff on hunting laws to find out if you can legally.

When I call coyotes, I carry a Winchester .22 mag. lever-action with a Redfield 3x9 scope. Its light weight and takes down coyotes easily.

Yes and no. If you are talking centerfire, of course. If you mean rimfire, whcih im sure you do, then no. It will kill them after several bullets. I shot one and it richocheted off its head. They are just too tough for a .22 rimfire. If you can get a head shot within 50 yards, you might kill it. It would take like 5 bdy shots to actually take it down.
I use my Mossberg 100 Atr .243, and it really does the job quite well.

I would not advise it, if you are talking .22LR.
We have a responsibility to dispatch our prey as quickly as possible with as little suffering as we can. Shooting a coyote at range with a .22lr may kill, but it will likely only wound.
Do as has been advised and consider a .22 Magnum as the smallest round you would use and preferably something with a little more punch.

You can, but you better be a good shot. You might want to upgrade to at least a .308. If you shoot a coyote with a 22 it will probably just wound it.

Sure. People have been using it on coyotes for years. Keep your shots close and try for a head shot.

Check the legality, but it should be fine. Aim for the head or behind the front leg so you hit the vital organs.

It Depend on your local DNR regulations,or local ordinance enforcer if it legal.
As to effectiveness,It's lethality diminishes after aprox 300 yds. depending on your acuracy and luck.
coyote are more easily trapped than tracked, they also "pack up" in domestic environments.
