Glad to see another aficionado of the venerable Abtomat Kalashnikova! Welcome, Rose! We need more like you!
"Spray and pray rifles"? Come on, now; let's not Zumbo-ize a good discussion. AK series rifles can be had that will shoot respectable groups, an example being the Arsenal SLR-106, which averages in the 1 1/2 MOA range. Not bad for a S&P rifle...In addition, a lot depends on the shooter. I very seldom spray and pray with my Polytech AKS-762, and it delivers acceptable results within the limits of its design niche. I ask nothing more of it, and enjoy shooting it immensely.
All things being equal, the anti-gun types do not see any measurable difference between an "evil AK-47 Assault machine gun of death" and a "diabolical Assault Remington Rolling Block of long range child killing". To them, ALL guns are instruments of evil, and they would consign all gun owners to "re-education" camps if they could find a way to do it, and are working toward that end as we speak. The more we bicker with each other over the type or reputation of our respective firearms, the less able to fight the anti-gun encroachment we will be.

Grow up Ace.
Some of the finest marksmen ever were women. And in general, women tend to shoot better than most men when they first get started. Guys seem to have an "I'm a man, I know how to shoot. I don't need any instruction" attitude.
Women on the other hand tend to have excellent hand-eye coordination, and most do not have bad habits that have to be unlearned before learning good habits.
I am always happy to encounter a lady gun crank.
But miss, if you think one of those spray and pray rifles is fun, you really need to try something like a Sharps, or Remington Rolling Block in either .45-70 or .50-70 loaded with blackpowder. That is real fun! Especially when you are shooting at a target nearly half a mile away and you have time to reload the rifle before the bullet hits the target.
Good Shooting m'am

I am father of a 12 yr old daughter. She finished hunter safety in April, last month we joined a trap league together. My wife and I got her a nice little Remington 870 youth for her birthday.
She is hitting targets better then I did at her age.
She is my outdoor girl. And looks like she'll be my other hunting buddy besides my lab.
I will introduce her to other weapons when she get's a little older.. the 1st couple of years is gonna be dedicated to busting clays, shooting quail and pheasants.
Kudos to the ladies, Ted Nugent's wife has done a lot to bring it to the ladies. She is working with a black rifle manufacturer to make an AR with a ladies flair..

I gave my mom a semi-automatic pistol for Christmas a few years ago. The following March when I went on vacation she came to my home to feed my dogs and caught a man trying to break in. She used the pistol I gave her to escort the thief away from my home. When good people carry guns, criminals have a bad day.
I have a Glock in my pocket as I type this. Hope the thief comes back when I'm home...

Go for it. I encouraged my daughters to learn to shoot, but only my 22 year old daughter took me seriously.
Best.
