I want to get a bolt action rifle that fires either the Russian 7.62x54r round or the 8mm Mauser round.

The candidates for bolt action rifle are....
M44 Soviet carbine, has a folding Bayonet. 120 dollars
M38 Soviet carbine, (m44 w/ no bayonet) 160 dollars
Mauser98k German carbine, made in Yugoslavia 160 dollars

Anyone own any? I want to know the good and bad of each one. I hear the m38 is gaining value but I like bayonets. The Mauser98k is probably better made but I don't know.

Anyone know of any other bolt action carbines that fire either of these rounds or another that is as cheap that I should consider instead? I am trying to keep the price at 175 dollars or less since this is just a rifle for fun.

I have always been curious about what happens when someone puts a battery inside of a gun, in which the firing pin hits directly on the back of the battery.

Please, only real answers.

I'm puting together an AR-15. I would like to make it a .22LR cal. I have found some complete upper recievers that will work with an AR-15 mil spec lower reciever, but they are Carbon 15's. Whats the difference and any ideas where to find more .22LR complete uppers (other than Bushmaster Carbon 15)?

Sorry if this is a stupid common-sense question. I want to buy a handgun for personal/home defense purposes. If I go to the gun shop and buy a gun, after passing the background checks and it's time to take it home, how do you take it home with you if you can't conceal it? You just hold it in your hand in plain sight? And what about bringing it to a shooting range? You just put it on the seat in your car or what? What if you get pulled over by a cop for speeding or something?

Its quite old and doesn't have it written anywhere on it. It does have a long loading pin though into which the pellets go. From what I can see on the internet pellets are either .22 or .177
I've measured the diameter of the loading pin/magazine and it looks like its about 5mm, which would suggest its a .177 but I want to know for sure before I buy. Any ideas? (OTHER THAN TAKING IT TO A SHOP!!)

This is probably the next thing that might happen because of a state that wants to impose a tax on fishing in Long Island Sound.

Carolyn McCarthy, NY(D) just introduced a bill to Congress that would ban thousands more firearms than the Clinton gun ban was ever to effect. Any and all semi-automatic rifles and shotguns.

Or is the American gunowners' backlash justified? Earlier we asked (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArKxgJBe5L8n5gdTlH.jizfsy6IX?qid=20070219154839AAteCSu ) what Jim Zumbo said that ticked off Remington Arms and Outdoor Life. Today on MSNBC.com, an article from the Washington Post (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17307316/ ) seems to make Zumbo out as the victim, claiming he was sacrificed to prevent a rift between American hunters and Americans that own firearms that the "ANTI'S" call assault weapons. Personally, I shoot an AR in competition, and am building an AR-based spacegun as a Match Rifle. I know his comments on these "terrorist rifles" did not leave a favorable impression with me.

Has the gunowning community been too harsh with this writer? Has the NRA used this instance to paint a wrong impression of the intentions of the gunowning community? Or has Mr. Zumbo merely illuminated a rift that has been hidden between hunters, competitors, and collectors?

This question would probably be more for target shooters rather than hunters, all are welcome to answer of course.

Have you noticed when shooting the same distance (example 50 yards) and you traverse from a large bullseye, to a smaller bullseye, your groups improve? Why is this? When i shoot a 1" target I get 1/4 to 1/2 inch groups, if I shoot a 3 inch target, my groups grow to +1moa. This tells me it's me and obviously not my rifle, just curious as to why a smaller target forces greater accuracy, and if I'm the only one effected by this?
