All pistol manufacturers I can think of have their own websites, which will give you info on available models and calibers.
You will have to deal thru a FFL dealer for the purchase, but just to look, go to http://www.gunbroker.com , and you can search for any pistol on the market.

There are so many manufacturers sites, reviewers sites, and blogs that you could go to. What kind of "pistol" (revolver? automatic?) do you want. Handguns ARE NOT made for just combat! You are not giving enough information for me to go on and need to really think for yourself, the come back and state a question that has some meat to it.

Update: I starred your question so as to put it in the idiot category.

My gun of choice would be a Colt Python. I am partial to revolvers...

Hubby likes automatics, he is partial to Springfield Armory. Since they are military weapons, ammo is cheap
