My husband and I are going camping for 10 days in Oct. We will be in Central Alabama. The last time we did this, it rained everyday! By the last day we were flooded. It was a mess. A cold, muddy mess.
How can we help from getting rained out in our tent. ( Since this is a stormy time of the year.) Is it possible to get a Canapy big enough to put over the whole tent that has sides that fold down, and if so will that help?

My friends and I are interested in going camping this fall here in the NY/NJ/PA area. However, I've never been camping and they're from the South where the falls are ideal. Are the conditions here in the NE good enough for outdoor tent camping in the fall? A lot of the local campgrounds are still open until the end of October. I called some places and they claim the weather is usually good until the end of the season. My biggest concern is the overnight temperatures we could face inside the tent. Any advice, tips? Please help.

I want to go camping this weekend Sept 22/07 at Harrison Hotsprings in BC, by some lake and free hotsprings for relaxation. Do I have to concern myself with the presence of bears at this time of the year??? I know not to have food with us at the actual site. We plan on camping near some lake that is near these free springs. Any idea's my outdoor adventurer friends?

I love camping, especially in the fall. But it's going to be unusually chilly next weekend so I was thinking of investing in one.

I am looking for the best Ice chest when it comes to holding ice for 2-5 day periods. I will be using this while camping, and sometimes we are a good drive from any civilization. Any suggestions and websites will be appreciated.

When tent material is tested for water proofness, the hydrostatic pressure it can stand before it leaks is given in either pounds per square inch or millimeters. Is this millimeters of mercury or water? I'm assuming mercury so correct me if I'm wrong. I have one
tent where the floor material is rated at 165 psi and another which is
rated at 3,000 mm. The 165 psi converts to 8,533 mm and the 3,000 mm converts to 58 psi. Am I doing this conversion right or am I comparing apples to oranges?
I'm comparing a Sierra Designs Stretch Prelude to a Eureka K2.

I got tent and sprayed with waterproofing. Used it yesterday during the rain and had to put a tarp over it to keep the water from seeping through the top. So I'm looking for a new one thats really rain proof, any suggestions?

Both as a U.S. Boy Scouter and simply an individual concerned about proper hydration, I've often found myself carrying water bottles and/or mess kits in situations where they might be easily confused with similar bottles/kits owned by others. However, given that both of these items are regularly soaked, and often scrubbed, I have thus far found no more satisfactory means of labeling my own items save by scratching my initials into the material.

Has anyone figured out a reliable sort of labeling material and adhesive to use on regularly-washed items of aluminum, Lexan, or other commonly-used plastics?

What machete would you recommend for chores around the campsite? I have been thinking about the Woodsman's Pal or the Gerber Spec Knife. Regarding the Woodsman's Pal, I wonder how usefull the hook is? Also, I have ruled out the US Army machete as they are too flimsy and too long.

I want to go on an overnight camping trip with my boyfriend for Labor Day, but we want to avoid any sexual situations... Any ideas of how we can stay together but not get *too* close? I think we would just stay in the back of my truck or something.

If you guys have any better ideas for hanging out, without the regular dinner and movie thing, let me know too!

I'm looking for a place to go camping where alcohol is allowed. I'm from the Philly area and I don't really want to go more than 2 and a half hours away. Does anyone know of any campsites where alcohol is allowed near here?

My mum and dad are going camping this weekend for two nights. It's my mum's first time, and I don't think my dad's been in over 20 years. Does anyone have any last minute advice I can give them, things to take, things to do, etc so that they'll think I'm a genius, and also so they don't come home early and ruin my plans.

If it makes a difference, they're going on a camp site with toilet facilities etc on site. And they're taking the dog with them.

I will take my wife camping for her b'day.

I don't think there are any local attractions.

I'll take her hiking, swimming, perhaps make whoopie.

But what else? Roast marshmallows, board games, massage?

Any ideas?
