I'm looking for a place to go camping where alcohol is allowed. I'm from the Philly area and I don't really want to go more than 2 and a half hours away. Does anyone know of any campsites where alcohol is allowed near here?

Alcohol is prohibited at PA State Parks and at the Delaware Water Gap Recreation campsites. Alcohol is allowed at the campgrounds operated by Pennsylvania Power & Light. (if it isn't no one has ever said anything to me.) There are no Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds in Eastern PA. They usually do not have an alcohol policy, nor do National Forests. Camping on PA State Game Lands is prohibited except for certain places along the Appalachian Trail Corridor.

Now...having said that, Unless you are planning to get plastered or overtly flaunt the fact you are drinking, the chances of getting nailed by the park rangers is SLIM. If you have a camper or RV...who the heck is going to know? Rangers and campsite hosts will make a sweep through the campsite areas (looking for unattended food) but 9/10 times they just walk right past and don't go poking around unless you give them a reason to. (An empty case of longnecks outside your tent would be a good reason.) So drink carefully.

However, if you are not inclined to break the rules (or unwilling to pay the fine) I would suggest to start looking into private campgrounds. KOA and Good Sam Park types of places if you have an RV. If you are looking for tent camping, there are plenty of places...just type "Pennsylvania Campgrounds" into a search engine and you should find a boatload. There are at least a dozen or so in the Lake Wallenpaupack area where I live..(about 2 hours from Philly)
