I have no experience with handguns, but want to buy one for personal protection (and will definitely take a firearms course). From the research I've done it seems the 2 basic options are a 9 mm or a .45.

Could anyone please give basic info on which is "best". I realize each has its positives and negatives.

For simplicity I'll just list some questions:

1. Is one easier to be more accurate with?
2. Does the .45 have more "stopping power"?
3. Is the "1911" a specific model type of a .45?
4. Is either more reliable (not breaking, lasting over time)?
5. Regarding Glock's: What does the number refer to (i.e. Glock 17, 19, 21, 30)
6. Is either easier to use?
7. Is either easier to repair personally (with a repair kit)?
8. Is there a particular brand that is best?

Though I want a good gun for a beginner, I also want one that I can stick with long-term and appreciate as I become more experienced.

Thanks a lot for any information!

I'm on a small farm with a couple of other small farms around me so I don't want to use my .270 and my 12 gauge doesn't have the range. The reason I'm hunting this coyote is because it killed my son's cat, 4 of my chickens, and chases the horses. So all you PETA people don't send the hate mail because my son could be next on the coyote's menu.

So if anyone out there with experience hunting coyotes I'll appreciate the info.

I'm just curious if you need a license or anything to own a gun, not hunt.

He proposed to ban sale and transfer of ALL semi-automatic firearms. That means grandpa's shotgun, your keepsake M1, your antique model 1900 Browning .32 pistol, even your little .22 Marlin rifle that pops small game, paper targets and tin cans.

My husband loves Hunting and Guns. His Birthday is coming up and I want to get him a gun. he owns between 35-40 guns right now. He really likes the older guns. I want to get him one that will make him freak out or even something to do with guns that would make him freak out. If you could help me with this it would make things alot less hard for me. Even if you could tell me what things a gun collector would want besides a gun. Really what ever help you can give would be nice. THANKS!

I have a slingshot with wrist brace and 1/4" steel shot ammo as well as 1/2" steel shot ammo. I found the 1/4" much too hard too control. I've hit 5 or 6 rabbits, but never in the head or neck. I'm not sure if the ammo is actually penetrating or not, but the rabbits jump real high in the air, but only act injured for a few moments, and the ones with hurt legs can still limp off much faster than I can catch them. My questions are, where should I aim to kill a rabbit? and is my slingshot (says it shoots up to 400 yards) and my ammo capable of killing a rabbit with or without a head or neck shot?

I have a newly purchased H&K rifle, and it has been SPECIFICALLY chambered for the 7.62x51 NATO round. I know a round chambered for commercial .308 can accept the 7.62 Nato round, but the 7.62 Nato round won't accept the commercial .308 round. So I was wondering, does the "Federal" .308 round=7.62x51 NATO round, or is the federal .308 the same as the commercial and more widely used counter part?

I'm going fishing tomorrow with my dad. I'm twelve and I want to know what are some ways to keep myself entertained and still bond with my father.

Further details will be gladly given, if asked for.

or something and was woundering if there is some way to get the recoil down on the bigger cals. My 223 kicks pretty good and I can only think about how much a 270 or 308 will. I saw some costom barrals already and was woundering if they work alright. If I can get a special barrel what would the price range be.

I just got a CZ52 Surplus Pistol from Aim Surplus and it almost always shoots low. It shoots about 2-3 feet low at 25 yards with surplus ammo. It appears to be in pretty good shape with good rifling in the barrel.
Is there anything I can do to make it shoot better? Do you think it might be the ammo?
