I'm going fishing tomorrow with my dad. I'm twelve and I want to know what are some ways to keep myself entertained and still bond with my father.

Further details will be gladly given, if asked for.

I used to take my Daughter(I'm a dad) fishing as she was growing up. I think the first time she was 7. As she got older she didn't like the fishing so much. But she never stopped loving the water and being on a boat or just enjoying nature. When it would get dark I would read stories or tell campfire type stories to entertain everyone. She is 20 now, and although she still doesn't like fishing whenever she is in town from school in the summer she always loves to go out on the boat and enjoy the peace and quiet and the nature around us. It turned into a lifelong bond for us that neither will ever give up.
So take advantage of the time available. You don't have to concentrate on fishing. Concentrate on talking to your dad. He will love it and you can learn a lot when in that environment. I mean about your dad. It may surprise you how honest fisherman are when they're fishing. Not so much with the fish stories though.

If it makes you feel any better I'm 21 and a guy and I still really haven't figured this one out.

My family all likes to fish...well everyone but me. I think it's boring but here are a few things I do.

I watch the water at the shore, not my cork or really my line...because if I do...the fish never show up. I bring my camera and take pictures of everyone, so I have momeries of the trip of what I saw at the time and not the fishing. I put my feet in the water...I ask the people I'm with to tell me stories...When I was younger I told my parents about people at school and my weird friends.

If all that fails I write a story in my head. I'm a bit of an artist/writer so my mind wants to go that way...so I let it...or you could bring a book, or an iPod if you have one and just keep one earbud in and the other ear open so you can have some music...but still listen if dad wants to talk.

Well I was going to suggest bringing the iPod along, but then read that you want to bond. Well, definitely leave the iPod behind in that case.

If he has a "fish finder," that's always fun to watch, because you'll always see a huge fish appear, and it's kinda spooky because it's supposed to be right under the boat. I think the fish finder, though, is just random and doesn't really work, LOL.

OK so maybe the day will be boring, but that depends on your catch.

I guess I wouldn't mind bonding with my dad. I don't even know who or where he is!

Why not play a soft music in the background with a portable player? Music that both you and your father love. You may talk about the music during his younger days and ask him what are his thoughts about today's music. That would be great and your father would surely appreciate that.

Enjoy fishing! Be sure to throw the very small ones back to the water.

Fishing is a form of entertainment in of itself, go out there and relax. Try to imagine what your lure or bait is doing in the water and imagine how the fish see it. Enjoy the scenery and the peacefulness of your surroundings. And think about how Young your life is compared to the natural surroundings.

I wouldn't take headphones or anything out there.

Enjoy the time fishing with your Dad.

Fishing is a special time for guys. Your dad will have a good time because he's escaping life for the day and spending time with his daughter. Just embrace the moment. Talk, share stories, listen, in 10 years from now you may be glad you did.

change the way you feel about fishing.
your dad probably could care less about fishing.
it is the two of you being together and bonding that is important. just talk with him and laugh a lot. ask him about when he was 12. what did he do with his dad.
my dad never did a thing with me. i guess he was never interested in me. your dad is atleast is trying to do something with you. you should appreciate the idea that
he wants to sped time with you.

Sweetie...I'm glad you are going out fishing with your Dad. Try just talking to him about everything you have going on. I would suggest in other circumstances to take a book, but you have to watch your line. I don't think you'll have any problem being busy. :D
