If he likes the older guns, I would check a site with collector firearms in it. Here are a couple.
Cabellas Gun Library or Collectors Firearms. You should be able to type that into the search bar and you come up with the sites matching those names. They will not be cheap so you need to get a good idea what he REALLY likes. Also if he likes to shoot all his guns you may not want to get a collectible one. They will have pictures and descriptions along with the price. Some may have a unique provenance as to the original owner( famous person, actor etc)
Yes, I am jealous also. But shes been around longer than all my guns so I guess I'll keep her.

If you want to buy him a gun as a present ,the way around the straw man issue is, make a down payment or a deposit on it then either give him a gift certificate or take him with you when final payment is made. He can fill out the 4473 himself. No harm, no foul.

Well, you've made 99% of the guys on this site jealous!
I bet he's a handloader, too. If he's using a manual powder scale, one of the electronic scales/dispensers would be nice. Or an antique bullet mould, depending on what guns he has.
He probably already has a chronograph, but if not that's a great gift, too.

god i wish my ex wife was like you \ but anyway OK little suggestion talk to him and find out what he is interested in however you have too be very careful because the fed regulation on straw buyer,s \ IE you buying a guy for some one Else \ if i may suggest you listen to him as far as something from some place he is really interested in and get a gift certificate to it because if you purchase something for him you will run afoul of violating a fed law

A big gun safe.
Or maybe he wants you to go shooting with him.
Usually if your mate is into something they want to share it with the ones they love.Maybe you do shoot with him already.
Good Luck

I would suggest asking one of his gun buddies, they should know what he already has and what he would want or need.
