I know you would probably say, just get a bike and get out riding! But it would be so much more fun to get into the sports with some sort of club or society, plus I can really do with some advice in choosing my first mountain bike on a budget. Any information/advice would be appreciated. Btw, I am located in West Yorkshire. Many thanks in advance!

I want to get my child a bike for easter. she already has a bike which is getting too small. I have no idea what size her bike is. I got kind of confused when I went to buy one. 16", 20"? I don't know. The bike she already has may be 16" or it may not, I don't know how to tell what size it is. Can some help me out? Please... How do I figure out the size of the bike she already has so I'm sure to get one that suits her properly?

My current bike - Trek 9900 Pro Issue "top shelf" components 19 lbs. (1996) I used to race but I now just enjoy riding a few days a week, UNFORTUNATELY the XC race position + hard tail is becoming very wearing on my back (broke it 27 years ago, now it's getting more sensitive the older I get). A few months ago I rented an Intense Spyder FRO and a Yeti AS-Rslc for the day and I couldn't believe the difference from my Trek (at least it felt very different), it seemed like I was sitting more "upright" than my hard tail and was much easier to climb even though it weighed 6lbs more. The awesome thing is that my back didn't hurt much even at hour 5, on an insane climbing / technical / long ride. After comparing geometry specs to my Trek vs. Yeti & Intense, they aren't much different... now I'm somewhat confused... it seemed like it had to have been more than just the cushy suspension that kept my back from hurting so much. I'm selling my Trek this week and am now in the market for a FS Bike

I've been riding mountain bikes for awhile and I was wondering if clipless pedals made a big difference. Are they really worth buying or is it better to just stick with regular bike pedals.

These companies all have these specific requirements in the range of 500-650. I guess i am unfamiliar with the brands. Are any of these worth staying clear of? At the moment i am leaning towards a Trek 3900Disc, Giant Boulder Disc, or Mongoose Tyax Elite.

national safety council says
your odds, in a lifetime, of dying in a bicycle
accident, are 1 in 4919

what does that really mean [don;t just
guess, find out]?

out of every 4919 deaths in the USA,
1 is a bike accident?

this probably includes children though
[but find that out too]

is there any real data for adult cyclists?

what about this statistic?
number of deaths per mile among
adult cyclists?

wle.

I want a mountain bike that can be used on a daily basis for both road and trail.

height: 6 feet, 0 inches
weight: 190lbs plus backpack
expected price range: $300 to $500

At first, I stupidly bought something for $50 thinking I could use it to ride to my college campus and back. There were many headaches fixing the piece of crap since the parts were so cheap (particularly the wheel bearings). So, I have had enough of that and want something better. What brand or model performs consistently well and why? Also, any USA bike stores you recommend or is it just primarily the local shops that are good?

I'm a biking novice so:

1. Which is the better lock - a cable lock or a D-lock??

2. I have £30 to spend max, could someone recommend a decent lock!?

3. I have £20 to spend on a pump, could someone recommend one for shraeder valve tyres which has a pressure guage and doesnt let any air escape when you take the pump off the valve??

Thanks!!

I have changed the tube twice and there are no holes in the tire and nothing noticeably wrong with the rim. Within a few hours something has made a small hole in the tube and I am back to nothing. Could the tube be too big (its a universal tube)? or is there some other possible problem?
