Men's bike frames don't slope down but women's bike frames do. What is the reason for this. the only (old fashioned) reason that i can think of is because of women wearing skirts. Any answers?????

Like if it is raining outside, so you put your bike on this thing on the ground maybe in your livingroom, so then you can still get a workout without having to get wet in the rain. The device holds your bike in place.

Hi I am going to buy a bike and I am interested in 3 bikes one from

-argos
-Toys R Us
-Local Bike shop

what is the main differene from buying a 'Bike in a box' vs from a bike shop ? please explain in detail.

What should I consider when buying a bike ?

I was thinking this bike out of argos -because of full suspension price £89.99

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3321085.htm

this one from Toys R Us because of-price full suspension and disc brakes price £99.99

http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/TruHome/TruBikesWheeledGoods/TruBikesWheeledGoodsMens/TruBikesWheeledGoodsMens26InchWheel/73002

and this one because I imagine it'd be better quality and the bike shop said thet would put 'Hybrid' tyres which would be better for road/pavement use (is this a good idea?)

is there anything else I shop consider ?
which one of these bikes would be best ? or does anyone know anything better?

I've seen a golfer show how to measure a golf club by useing your body.If the golf club hndle touches under your armpit to the ground striaght up and down then its the right size.
My point is I'm sure there's many different ways to measure a bike to your body size.
I don't mean a motorized bike either.
Any Ideas?

I bought a new handlebar online and I can't seem to remove my shifters from the old bar to place on the new one. I have Shimano ST-5600's in the 105 group. There is a heavy rubber boot I can't seem to get off until I remove it from the bar and I can't find any screw that allows me to loosen the retaining bracket from the bar. Please, I need help! These things are expensive and I don't want to break them nor do I want to get ripped off at the bike shop to do it... Thanks.

I'm looking to buy a new bicycle, i think i'm going to get a cannondale and i've been researching frames and my options are aluminum, carbon, or alloy. It will be a road bike and everywhere i read i find warnings saying how fragile these bikes are, particularly the carbon and aluminum, that if the drop or anything it might dent or crack. I don't race a whole lot but i want something that i can have for a while but will also be very comfortable riding for long periods of time. Does anyone have good advice or experience with these frames and can tell me if these are huge factors that I should worry about or are the warnings just because it has happened a few times.

Everyone says that these bikes are crap... What is wrong with them? I have never owned one, but I found a great deal on a $475 Jeep Cherokee Classic. I can get it for $280.

Everyone says jeep bikes are crap, but they never say why

I have been doing research on 2 different brands of bikes, and now I am stuck. My local bike shop sells Trek, and I found a great deal online for a Jeep Cherokee Classic mountain bike. The suggested retail price for the Jeep is $475, but I found it online for only $280.

I have read a lot of reviews, many saying that Jeep is not a bad bike, but others say that they are crap wal-mart bikes. Last time I was at wal-mart, they didnt have a $475 bike... Is this bike different from the other "crap" bikes? It has an aluminum frame, dual shocks, disc brakes. Here is the link http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2129481

The Trek bike I'm looking at is also aluminum and retails at $310. I cant think of the model off the top of my head. I'm also looking at a comparible Gary Fisher.

Any suggestions or things to look out for?

Thanks!

I got a 21 speed mountain bike last year (a Trek for $320) to ride around the area for a good workout. I only ride on the roads really (they're like back roads) and it's very hilly around here, so that's part of the reason I chose a mountain bike over a road bike. The bigger reason was that it was a lot cheaper to get a good one.

So anyway, I've been using the stock tires it came with, but I want to get some new ones that would be better on the roads. I was looking at these two:

http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=14384&subcategory_ID=5430

Which do you think would be better and why?

I want to buy a recumbent bike. I am considering the Nautilus 2000 or the Vision Fitness 2150 or 2200. They all have similar features, so I am inquiring primarily about the quality of the bike and comfort with extended use.

I'm used to buying department store bikes and I'm done with that because they fall apart and the derailleur won't stay "tuned", so shifting isn't precise. I'm hoping to end that with a bike with top components.

I ride paved trails, however single track looks fun and I would like to get off the paved stuff sometime. I only need to stop being such a neat freak and not worry about getting the bicycle parts dirty...however with more expensive parts I might worry more....unless I know how to properly clean and maintain them.

Would the bicycle be good for single track? What other riding styles?

I'm aware some say carbon fiber cranks aren't good because they can break easily if they hit a rock and power can be lost due to the bend because carbon fiberisn't so stiff...however these tests suggest there isn't a huge difference @ 124 pounds of pedaling force

A friend told me that the mass of a wheel contributes more to the overall intertia of a bicycle than the frame because it is spinning. I have a degree in Physics and I can't make any sense of it. Could someone enlighten me?

I have a new bike which has a quick-release:

Front wheel
Back wheel
Seat

I'm concerned about the above being easily take so:

1. How can i securely lock my seat? I dont want to take it out and put it in my bag since the stem is covered in grease! So how can i secure it when leaving my bike?

2. If i take the front wheel off via its quick release function and lock my bike up throught the back wheel/frame with my front wheel rolled to the back of the bike, surely this will:

- Eventually wear out the front wheel quick release function (if i am contunually taking the wheel off/putting it back on)

- And it could scrath the front suspension forks if they are scraping on the ground with the front wheel off.

How can i lock up my bike securely and without using a million different locks?????

Thanks
