Men's bike frames don't slope down but women's bike frames do. What is the reason for this. the only (old fashioned) reason that i can think of is because of women wearing skirts. Any answers?????

:: sigh ::: going over this again.

What Digger sed.

Forget about tradition nowadays most women ride "mens frames".

On the other hand race and high performance road bike frames for men AND women may have "sloping top tube". It's designed to give the bike a shorter frame and therefore tight turning radius, sharper handling.

Do not confuse these with a womens frame. ;-)

Then there's WSD, womens specific design.

These bikes started with great small independent builders, Terry Cycles, Luna Cycles and are designed for women.

Proportionaly the average woman of any height has longer legs, shorter torso and arms, narrower shoulders and smaller hands than the average man.

Viva l' Differance! ;-)

For years women coped with feeling stretched out like on a rack with frames designed for men till these bike builders came along.

Now the "major" companies Cannondaletrekspecializedbianchi....make bikes designed for women with shorter tob tube, crank arms proportional to us, brifters we can actually use, narrower handle bars....

Well, about the sloped top tube, you are right, it's because of skirts.

However, there are different bikes WSD (women specific designs). While there is visually not much difference from a men's bike (other than probably color), there is a slight geometry difference. But this affects short women more than tall ones. It's just a question of trying different bikes and see how they feel and fit.

That is basically true, but nowadays the only differences between men's and women's frames are slight geometry differences.

The women's frames usually have taller head tubes and shorter top tubes for a given size.

The "mixte" style frame that Wal-Mart sells as a woman's bike is only used on cheap frames.

Yes, originally it was for girls wearing skirts so they didn't have to hike a leg up over the top. Now it's only because of tradition, but most serious women riders ride men's bikes.

This can be answered really quickly, you ready...?

Sloping tube = skirts.

Other main difference = women have shorter reach so bike is shorter.

Done!

that is purely a leftover custom. that is what women human beings traditionally rode by using skirts. although, observe how there are no extreme end women human beings's motorcycles? The physique layout is truthfully no longer as sturdy and fairly pointless.

You just answered your own question. It's the skirts. Women are not comfortable "hiking" their log over a top bar.
