Everyone says that these bikes are crap... What is wrong with them? I have never owned one, but I found a great deal on a $475 Jeep Cherokee Classic. I can get it for $280.

Everyone says jeep bikes are crap, but they never say why

Ok, well, I'm not spending more than $300.... So, is this a good deal? I am also considering either a TREK or Gary Fisher, they are comparible bikes for $300.

Which would be a better buy?
The jeep that retails at $475, and I can get it for $280, or the TREK/Gary Fisher?

this is just another mass produced cheap bike, and the name Jeep is just licensed from the car manufacturer

these are usually sold at stores like Walmart, Kmart, Sears, Target, etc.
NEVER buy any bike from one of these stores... most of the time they are assembled by kids who don't know what they are doing, and if there is ever a repair needed, it will cost you the price of the bike to fix it

please go to your local bike shops and look around... check out KHS, Trek, Specialized, and Giant
expect to spend 400 to 500 bucks for quality and durability

Jeep has no dealer support that I an aware of. They also tend to be sold in department stores where there is no service and maybe no parts after the sale. The ones that I've seen have not been that great. You can find a MUCH better bike in a bike shop for about that same price. And, you have dealer support and parts availability after the sale. I hope that I was helpful.

Trek is the industry leader in cycling.

Trek / VW has the most winningest mountain bike team in North America...

Lifetime Warranty on the frame, crash replacement policy in writing, 5 year warranty on Bontrager parts = the industry's best coverage.

That stands for something!

Family owned and operated by the SAME family for over 30 years - they must be doing something right...

Oh yeah, that Lance Armstrong guy didn't hurt things either!

Not my opinion - just facts...

Enjoy!

Yep, you want to stay away from the bicycle car names... Jeep, Hummer, Cadillac bicycles, etc. These are paid for rights to use the name, the $$$ go's to the name to bait people as oppose putting money into a quality bike.

Mercedes Benz is now also selling bikes with their name on them.

I've seen the Jeep bicycle and I don't see anything wrong with it. The same company also sells a beach cruiser type bicycle with the Chrysler name on it.

Junk. Same quality as department store bikes. As a rule of thumb, a bike retailing new for less than $1000 is probably not decent. If it has shimano components, they should be LX or better (XT, XTR).
