My husband is interested in purchasing a new bicycle as he is getting into triathlons. I am also interested in purchasing a bike, more for recreational riding but also with the possibility of training for a race of some sort (although most likely not a triathlon). When is a good time of year to buy bicycles from a bike shop (i.e., when do they try to get rid of the end of year models)?

I am looking at finally getting into a road bike but am on a pretty small budget for the things I want and am looking at combining both new and used parts for gaining best in performance and lasting durability with value. This would be something I might do some very beginner racing but mainly just normal distance rides. I was thinking my emphasis would be on an aluminum frame and nothing less than Shimano 105 flight deck or equivilent. Please let me know what parts you would use, whether new or used, and where and when to buy them. Thanks

so i started working out a lot this past summer. and i started biking . i barely could do any. like 2 miles in 30 minutes, w/ lots of stopping . i know , thats super slow lol. but now i can do like 10 miles i think maybe in around 35 minutes w/ lots of resistance and the wind going against me , going up hill and such. so i want to go biking around 15 miles this morning. how long is a good time for that, i mean for a super athlete lol. how long would it take for a super athlete to bike that? and how many calories do you think i would burn biking 15 miles?

I am planning on doind my first duathlon next weekend and I'm a little nervous. It's a short one 2, 20, 2 but since I've never done transitions before, I worried about screwing up. Any pointers? Things someone would only know if they had completed one. I appreciate any feedback!

Ok! Well I will just tell you straight out I have really bad luck with bikes I ride one something happens with it. for example, my mom took my bike and her bike to get it fixed so I can ride it to school and my bike got done later on so I had to wiat for it to get fixed so i rode my moms. Guess what got a flat tire it popped dont know how one day I picked it up after it fell over and it wouldnt stay up so i checked the tires flats so I pumped the one that was flat up to see if it was just a flat with not hole or naything like that it popped and it has a whole in it but cant find it. Well anyways I got mine back and rode it to school today being my 3rd times riding my bike to school today it was pouring outside and so I wnated to get home quick I walk outside in front of the school and my bike tire is flat. I have no clue why it was fine this morning and now its flat. Lucky meI could find a ride but still does anyone else have as much bad luck as I do with bikes. I touch a bike and bam!

Is it that you're not supposed to have both the numbers at the highest they will go, or both at the lowest? Like, are you supposed to have the right numbers towards the higher end if the left is on 1 or 2? OR is it the other way around?!

I just got a new Jamis and I want to take good care of it!

I would like to become stronger so that I can ride my bike further. But I seem to run out of stamina really quickly. It's really irritating; I get out of breath and develop stitch really quickly. It's only a problem when going up hills, but still - I want to be able to cycle from South Hampsted to Finchley.

I have just started getting into cycling to build up my leg muscles for an ACL replacement surgery and have read some articles on some bike seats being unhealthy for males. The store I bought my bike at mentioned something about their bikes having the new improved seats but I didn't know what they were talking about. So what should I be looking for in my seat to know if it is a good one?

I know my question "outs" me as a newbie, but I never understood why mountain bikers ride slower than those on 10-speeds in races. Also, I race on a 10-speed, but I ride as slow as the mountain bikers. I'm in great shape but I can't understand why I lag behind the group in races. I'm sure it has something to do with the gear shifts, but I never learned how those worked. Can someone help out this first-timer?

Hey guys. Because of the way my classes are set up, I think I'll be biking rather than walking to class a lot from now on. The only thing is, I don't want to do it with my relatively heavy laptop on my back the whole time.

What's the best way to carry stuff on a bike? Should I get a basket?
